To eject a transfer tray while no disc is played, the transfer tray is moved to an ejected position with a rotary table rotated through an angle corresponding to 1/10 revolution, so that even the rearmost disc holding portion on the rotary table sufficiently projects or is exposed out of a body of the device. This permits simultaneous disc replacement for the disc holding portions. To eject the transfer tray during playing of a disc, the transfer tray is moved to the ejected position without the rotary table being rotated, so that the rearmost disc holding portion on the rotary table does not sufficiently project out of the body of the device, permitting disc replacement only for the other disc holding portions than the rearmost disc holding portion.

Disc playing device

A disc playback device capable of continuously playing back a plurality of discs such as Compact Discs includes a main body, a tray movable relative to the main body for being received in and drawn out of the main body, a rotary table mounted rotatably on the tray, and a plurality of disc holding sections formed about a rotation axis of the rotary table. A turntable, a disc clamper and a reproducing head are provided in the main body separately from the tray. A recess is formed in the radial direction of the rotary table in each disc holding section and opens outwardly at the outer periphery of the rotary table. A disc mounting mechanism is provided for setting a disc held in the disc holding section on the turntable and clamping it by the disc clamper. The tray is formed with an opening communicating with the recess of the disc holding section in a disc playback position. The tray can be drawn out of the main body by keeping clear of the turntable and the reproducing head through the recess of the disc holding section and the opening of the tray while the disc is being played back. The disc holding sections hold discs in an inclined position in the circumferential direction of the rotary table and presence or absence of discs is detected by a reproducing head when the rotary table is rotated. While the tray is moved in and out of the main body, a pickup servo gain is increased to stabilize playback of a disc while the tray is being moved.

A disc player, for playing various information carrier discs, which includes, a single turntable for supporting an information carrier disc, a single drive motor for rotating the turntable, and a reproducing head device for reading signals recorded on the disc. The drive motor has a motor body and a rotation shaft, and is attached at its rotation shaft directly to the turntable with its motor body spaced apart from the turntable. Therefore, a clearance is formed between the motor body and the turntable. The reproducing head device is radially transferrable relative to the turntable. When the reproducing head device is transferred to its innermost position where it reads the signals recorded on the inner periphery of the information area of the disc, it is positioned in the clearance without butting against either the motor body or the turntable.
