An image pick-up apparatus includes: an image pick-up device for picking up an object image by converting the object image to an electric image signal; an image pick-up optical system having a variable aperture capable of changing an aperture value when an incident light beam on the image pick-up device is stopped down; a range-finder for measuring a distance to an object; an electronic flash mechanism for illuminating the object; and controller for determining an aperture value from the distance to the object measured by the range-finder and from a light emission capability of the electronic flash mechanism, and then for setting the variable aperture to the determined aperture value, when the controller makes the electronic flash mechanism to emit light so that the image pick-up device picks up the object image.

Image pick-up apparatus

A camera for photographing by exposing a silver halide film, includes: a silver halide photographing device having a lens and a shutter wherein a photographing is conducted by exposing the silver halide film through the lens and the shutter; and an electronic viewfinder having a solid-state image sensor and a direct-vision type image displaying section, for displaying an image picked up by the image sensor on the direct-vision type image displaying section. The image displaying section of the electronic viewfinder is disposed on a rear side of a main body of the camera.

A zoom camera being capable of changing a distance measuring direction to measure an object distance, and more particularly a camera which indicates the distance measuring direction overlapped on an object image in a view finder display. An object image is displayed in a finder display through an optical system, thereby the magnification of the object image in the view finder changes in accordance with a zooming of the camera. An indicator array is arranged on the view finder display, and the distance measuring direction is indicated by an activation of an indicator element of the indicator array located at a corresponding position to an object position in the distance measuring direction. For the purpose of coordinating with the change of magnification of the view image, the corresponding position is determined based on the focal length information obtained by a focal length detector in addition to distance measuring direction information and distance information, each obtained by each of a direction detector and a distance detector.
