In an oil seal of a hydraulic shock absorber, the oil seal is made of a nitrile rubber of a low nitrile, and an inner diameter of a second lip is set to be smaller within a range between 0.3 and 1.0 mm &phgr; than an outer diameter of a piston rod.

In a dust lip structure of an oil seal for oscillation, a thickness of the front end portion of the dust lip is substantially two thirds of an interference A of the first dust lip portion with respect to the rod , and an outer diameter of the dust lip is set to be in parallel to each of a front end side taper-like inner diameter portion B from the first dust lip portion to a root portion of the second dust lip portion and a base end side taper-like inner diameter portion B from the second dust lip portion to the base end portion.

Dust lip structure of oil seal for oscillation

An inverted strut damper includes an external cylinder which has an expanded midsection and a vertically moveable damper tube arranged concentrically within the outer cylinder. The outer cylinder and tube arrangement form a lubricating oil supply reservoir. Disposed at a top and a bottom of the outer cylinder is a respective oil seal and bearing arrangement. The upper bearing is adjacent to the lubricating oil reservoir and upon upper movement of the damper tube, oil is supplied to the upper bearings and seal.
