A hybrid electric vehicle including: (a) an engagement device disposed between an engine and an electric motor; (b) a transmission disposed between the electric motor and drive wheels; (c) an electric storage device configured to supply an electric power to the electric motor; and (d) a control apparatus. When the engine is to be started, the engagement device is engaged to transmit a torque from the electric motor to the engine, for thereby starting the engine. The control apparatus is configured to inhibit stop of the engine, when an outputtable electric power outputtable from the electric storage device is not larger than a threshold value. The threshold value is not smaller than a start-case-required electric power that is required to start the engine, such that a difference value between the threshold value and the start-case-required electric power is not larger than a predetermined value.

Hybrid electric vehicle

A control apparatus for a hybrid electric vehicle includes: an engine control portion for controlling an operation state of an engine; and a driving-mode control portion for controlling the vehicle so as to realize selected at least one of driving modes. The driving modes include a low-gear all-wheel driving mode and a high-gear all-wheel driving mode. In a case in which the low-gear all-wheel driving mode is selected in the high-gear all-wheel driving mode when the engine is in a stopped state with a vehicle power transmission apparatus being in a non-driving position that disables transmission of a drive power, the engine control portion maintains the stopped state of the engine until completion of switching from the high-gear all-wheel driving mode to the low-gear all-wheel driving mode, and starts the engine after the completion of the switching from the high-gear all-wheel driving mode to the low-gear all-wheel driving mode.

A control device of a hybrid vehicle including an engine, motor that receives power from the engine via an engine connecting and disconnecting device, and automatic transmission, starts the engine in a first starting method in which the engine performs ignition and rotates by itself after the engine speed is increased to be equal to or higher than a predetermined rotational speed through slipping engagement of the engine connecting and disconnecting device, or a second starting method in which the engine performs ignition and rotates by itself from a stage before the engine speed reaches the predetermined rotational speed, and controls the automatic transmission to permit a lower gear position to be established according to shift conditions when the engine is started in the second starting method during a downshift of the automatic transmission, as compared with when the engine is started in the first starting method during the downshift.

The control apparatus for the lockup clutch includes an electronic control unit that is configured to: calculate a driven target clutch torque capacity and a driving target clutch torque capacity; set a target clutch torque of the lockup clutch and control the lockup clutch, based on the driven target clutch torque capacity and the driving target clutch torque capacity; and change over the target clutch torque capacity from the driven target clutch torque capacity to the driving target clutch torque capacity when the driven target clutch torque capacity and the driving target clutch torque capacity coincide with each other after an operation state of an accelerator of the vehicle changes over from an accelerator OFF state to an accelerator ON state.
