A cross-linked polyethylene insulated cable which is prepared by extrusion coating a polyethylene composition on a conductor, the polyethylene composition comprising polyethylene, more than 10% to less than 30% by weight of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer having a vinyl acetate (hereinafter referred to as VA) content of about 28% to about 33% by weight, the EVA having an average particle diameter of less than 1.7 .mu.m (average of maximum 5 values), and an organic peroxide, and thereafter cross-linking the thus coated polyethylene composition.

Cross-linked polyethylene insulated cables

An electrically insulated cable uses an insulator comprised of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer and an ethylene-.alpha.-olefin copolymer having a density of 0.91 or more. An electrically insulated cable also uses as an insulator a cross-linked composition made of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer and an ethylene-.alpha.-olefin copolymer.

A carbon film having a large electrical conductivity is produced at a comparatively low substrate temperature by a method comprising forming the carbon film from a hydrocarbon by an ion beam method and heating the substrate at a temperature of 400.degree. C. to 1,200.degree. C.

A fire spreading inhibitor composition comprising about 20 to about 40% by weight of an emulsion of a synthetic resin, about 1 to about 15% by weight of non-fusible organic fibers, about 20 to about 70% by weight of an inorganic powder at least about 50% of which is clay and/or zinc borate, and about 5 to 20% by weight of a halogenated hydrocarbon, all percentages being based on the dry weight as a coating.

Fire spreading inhibitor composition

In the connection or terminal portions of cross-linked polyethylene cables produced by winding irradiated tapes around the connection or terminal portions of cross-linked polyethylene insulated cables and heat molding the same, the irradiated tapes comprise polyethylene and/or an ethylene copolymer as a base resin plus an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer containing more than about 15% vinylacetate (VA) in an amount which provides more than an about 2.5% VA content in the irradiated tapes.

Connection or terminal portions for cross-linked polyethylene cables

Electric wires or cables having a dielectric layer or layers of an uncross-linked or cross-linked mixture of (1) a polyolefin and (2a) polystyrene or (2b) a styrene copolymer. The polystyrene is present in such an amount as to provide a 10 to 30% styrene content, based on the entire mixture weight, while if the styrene copolymer is used it is present in such an amount as to provide a 3 to 30% styrene content, based on the entire mixture weight. The mixture may comprise, alternatively, both polystyrene and a styrene copolymer in an amount so as to provide a 10 to 30% and a 5 to 20% styrene content, due to the former and the later, respectively, based on the entire mixture weight.
