A board-to-board connector for connecting printed boards to each other includes a receptacle comprising a plurality of signal contact elements to be electrically connected to one of the printed boards, and a plug comprising a plurality of signal contact elements to be electrically connected to the other of the printed boards, wherein each of the signal contact elements of the plug is in contact with the corresponding signal contact element of the receptacle when the plug has been inserted into the receptacle. The receptacle comprises an electromagnetic interference shield which continuously or discontinuously surrounds the plurality of signal contact elements of the receptacle, and the plug comprises an electromagnetic interference shield which continuously or discontinuously surrounds the plurality of signal contact elements of the plug.

A board-to-board connector for connecting printed boards to each other comprises: a receptacle comprising a plurality of signal contact elements to be electrically connected to one of the printed boards, and a plug comprising a plurality of signal contact elements to be electrically connected to the other of the printed boards, the signal contact elements being configured so that each of the signal contact elements of the plug is in contact with the corresponding signal contact element of the receptacle when the plug has been inserted into the receptacle. The receptacle comprises an electromagnetic interference shield which continuously or discontinuously surrounds the plurality of signal contact elements of the receptacle, and the plug comprises an electromagnetic interference shield which continuously or discontinuously surrounds the plurality of signal contact elements of the plug.

The present invention provides, at a low-manufacturing cost, a connector for connecting circuit boards to each other in which the area used exclusively for fastening the circuit boards is small, the work required in order to connect the circuit boards to each other in an electrically-continuous state is simple, and the connector has a simple structure. The connector for connecting circuit boards to each other comprises an insulating housing (11) which has a spacer member (12) that is disposed between upper and lower circuit boards (40,41), a conductive member (20) with a substantially C-shaped cross section is attached in a positional relationship such that the conductive member clamps onto the spacer member from above and below and establishes electrical continuity between conductive ground pads of the upper and lower circuit boards in a state in which the conductive member (20) is inserted between the upper and lower circuit boards (40,41), and a fastening means (30) fastens the upper and lower circuit boards to each other.

An electrical connector assembly (10,30) includes a metal sheet (20,42), which is in electrical contact with a metal shell (14,32), is embedded in an internal partition (18,40) of a housing (24,44) separating rows of contacts (16,38) for reducing electrical cross-talk between the contacts (16,38).

The shielded electrical connector (10) has an insulating housing (20), a metal shell (30) and a pair of fasteners (40). The metal shell (30) has resilient fastening legs (33). The fastener (40) has a main leg (41) with resilient arms (42) at its end, which is inserted and retained in the opening (26) of the insulating housing (20). The auxiliary leg (45) is made at a right angle relative to the main leg and has a latching protrusion (46) on its outer surface which becomes engaged with the resilient fastening leg (33) of the metal shell (30). The resilient arms (42) of the fastener (40) are inserted into a through-hole of the printed circuit board, thus achieving the attachment of the electrical connector (10) to the board, while the connection to the grounding layer is performed by means of soldering.

An electrical connector (10) of a type utilized to connect components that are sensitive to electrostatic discharge voltage transients includes a housing (20) having a projecting, unprotected forward portion (23) and a front face having slots (27a, 27b) therein and containing contacts (30) having ends (31) in such forward portion proximate to the slots and positioned to be engaged by contacts of a mating connector inserted within the housing. The housing (20) includes a grounding shield (40) that surrounds the forward portion and covers the face of the housing with slits (44a, 44b) extending around the housing slots to define a path to ground shorter than the path from the exterior of the housing to the contact ends (31) to assure that an electrostatic discharge from a source exterior to the connector is grounded.

A shielded electrical connector for matable and latchable connection with a complementary electrical connector (50) comprises an electrical contact assembly (27) covered by a metal shield member (11) having a profiled mating section (31) for matable engagement with a profiled mating section (52) of the complementary connector (50); latch members (20a, 20b) having slots (24) with sections (24') of the slots (24) having mounting sections (13') of L-shaped mounting members (13) of the shield members (11) disposed therein pivotally mounting the latch members on (20a, 20b) the shield member, and maintaining sections (13') of the mounting members (13) along with cantilever members (25) of the latch members (20, 20b) maintaining the latch members on the mounting members (11), and spring members (26) of the latch members (20a,20b) engaging the shield member (11) maintaining hook members (23) of the latch members (20a, 20b) in latching engagement with latching hooks (53) of the complementary connector (50).
