This disclosure provides a structure of an electric vehicle, which includes an engine, an electric generator for being driven by the engine, a battery for being supplied and charged with generated power at least from the electric generator, and a motor for being supplied with power from the battery to drive driving wheels. The engine, the electric generator, and a power transmission device for transmitting a motive force of the engine to the electric generator are integrally formed to constitute a power generation unit. The power generation unit is arranged inside an engine room so that at least the engine is located rearward from wheel axles of left and right front wheels.

Structure of electric vehicle

A rear floor panel extends rearwardly from a kick-up portion formed at a rear portion of a floor panel. A lateral connecting member which constitutes part of a rear suspension connects to supporting portions to support both rear wheels. An engine is arranged below the rear floor panel and in front of the lateral connecting member. A generator is arranged below the rear floor panel and in back of the engine. Accordingly, the traveling stability of the vehicle can be improved and the yaw inertia moment of the vehicle can be decreased.

A dual type exhaust system is used in an automobile having an internal combustion engine with transversely mounted front and rear rows of cylinders. Two exhaust pipe assemblies extend from the front and rear rows of cylinders, respectively, toward the back of the car body. The two assemblies are arranged side by side in a space formed in a floor panel. The exhaust pipe assemblies are, respectively, provided with catalytic converters offset in a lengthwise direction of the car body with respect to the space relative to each other so as to be arranged in a straight line in the space.
