It is an object to provide a tungsten alloy exhibiting characteristics equal to or higher in characteristics than those of a thorium-containing tungsten alloy, without using thorium which is a radioactive material, and a discharge lamp, a transmitting tube, and a magnetron using the tungsten alloy. According to the present invention, a tungsten alloy includes 0.1 to 5 wt % of Zr in terms of ZrC.

The present invention provides a getter material configured by a pressed powder mixture comprising Ba&#x2014;Al alloy powder and Ni powder, wherein when the pressed powder mixture is heated in a vacuum atmosphere or an inert gas atmosphere, a temperature at which an exothermic reaction starts is ranging from 750&#xb0; C. to 900&#xb0; C. According to this getter material, since the temperature at which the pressed powder mixture starts the exothermic reaction is set within a range from 750&#xb0; C. to 900&#xb0; C., there can be provided a getter material and an evaporation type getter device capable of suitably controlling an evaporation amount of getter components under a stable condition, and is excellent in responsiveness because a time ranging from a starting time of heating the getter material to a starting time of evaporation of the getter components can be shortened. In addition, the metal container to be filled with the getter material is free from deformation and melting, and a heat-evaporation process time of the getter material can be shortened, so that there can be provided the evaporation type getter device excellent in responsiveness because a time required for the electron tube to attain to a predetermined vacuum degree can be also shortened.

A hydrogen-absorbing alloy for battery according to the present invention comprises an alloy having the composition represented by a general formula A Ni.sub.a Mn.sub.b M.sub.c �where, A is at least one kind of element selected from rare earth elements including Y (yttrium), M is a metal mainly composed of at least one kind of element selected from Co, Al, Fe, Si, Cr, Cu, Ti, Zr, Zn, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Mo, W, Ag, Pd, B, Ga, In, Ge and Sn, 3.5.ltoreq.a.ltoreq.5, 0.1.ltoreq.b.ltoreq.1, 0.ltoreq.c.ltoreq.1, 4.5.ltoreq.a+b+c.ltoreq.6!, wherein the alloy has columnar structures in which the area ratio of the columnar structures having the ratio of a minor diameter to a major diameter (aspect ratio) of 1:2 or higher is 50% or more. Further, an average minor diameter of the columnar structures is set to 30 microns or less. With this arrangement, there can be provided a nickel-metal hydride battery capable of satisfying the three leading characteristics of a high electrode capacity, long life and good rising-up all together.

A hydrogen-absorbing alloy for battery according to the present invention comprises an alloy having the composition represented by a general formula A Ni.sub.a Mn.sub.b M.sub.c [where, A is at least one kind of element selected from rare earth elements including Y (yttrium), M is a metal mainly composed of at least one kind of element selected from Co, Al, Fe, Si, Cr, Cu, Ti, Zr, Zn, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Mo, W, Ag, Pd, B, Ga, In, Ge and Sn, 3.5.ltoreq.a.ltoreq.5, 0.1.ltoreq.b.ltoreq.1, 0.ltoreq.c.ltoreq.1, 4.5.ltoreq.a+b+c.ltoreq.6], wherein the alloy has columnar structures in which the area ratio of the columnar structures having the ratio of a minor diameter to a major diameter (aspect ratio) of 1:2 or higher is 50% or more. Further, an average minor diameter of the columnar structures is set to 30 microns or less. With this arrangement, there can be provided a nickel-metal hydride battery capable of satisfying the three leading characteristics of a high electrode capacity, long life and good rising-up all together.

A compressed powder core is made of a compressed body of a magnetic powder each particle of which has a surface covered with an insulating layer. The insulating layer is formed of an insulating material selected from the group consisting of an inorganic compound powder having an electronegativity of not less than 12.5, an inorganic compound powder having an electronegativity of less than 8.5, a metal alkoxide and a decomposition product of a metal alkoxide.

This invention provides a metal-bonded tool in which iron-base alloy powder and abrasive grains are bonded to each other. The quantity of the carbon or graphite in the bond being between 2.5 wt % or more and 4.5 wt % or less of the bond, and the diameter of the precipitated carbon or graphite being 5 .mu.m or less in the bond.

Metal-bonded tool and method of manufacturing same

A magnetic powder composition suitable for manufacturing a powder core used in a reactor or transformer connected to a semiconductor switching element, essentially consists of a powder of a soft magnetic metal or alloy or a mixture of these, an electrically insulating binder polymer for binding the powder, and a coupling agent of an organic metallic compound for coupling the powder and the binder polymer. The obtained powder core has excellent frequency characteristics of magnetic permeability, a high magnetic flux density, and a small iron loss at high frequencies.

An annular core used in a so-called air axial gap motor includes a magnetic and structural gap along the axial direction. By using a compressed molded body of a mixture of a magnetic metal powder and an electrically insulating resin as major constituents, an annular molded body and a molded plate are prepared. The annular molded body has slots and teeth alternately formed along the circumferential direction. The molded plate closes the upper portions of the slots to constitute a fully closed slot structure.

Disclosed is a process for producing a magnetic core, comprising the first step of bringing magnetic powder of a metal into contact with a polymer dispersion, followed by drying, to form an insulating layer on the surface of the magnetic powder and the second step of compression molding the magnetic powder. A magnetic core according to this invention has, since good insulation between magnetic powder particles can be ensured with a small amount of an insulating material, high magnetic flux density, small core loss and excellent frequency characteristics of magnetic permeability and is particularly suitable for use in high frequency range of some 10 KHz or higher.
