The present invention discloses a method and system for making losses due to the counterfeiting of RF-ID tags to a minimum, enhancing the reliability of RF-ID tag read-out and improving the overall reliability of the RF-ID tag system. An ID reader for communicating by radio with the RF-ID tag and reading tag data from the RF-ID tag transmits the data read-out results to a terminal management server connected to the ID reader. The terminal management server decodes the error correction signal from the read-out result data, also extracts the identification number section from the tag, and decides whether or not that identification number is valid. When determined to be a valid identification number, an inquiry is made to the system operation server connected over the network to find out if that identification number was previously read out and if that identification number might be counterfeit. The system operation server then refers to the log database, the blacklist database and process transition rule, calculates the probability of counterfeiting and automatically sends a warning message to the related department when there is a high probability of counterfeiting.

Method and system for identifying and managing radio frequency identification (RF-ID) attached objects

A method and a machine for generating a dictionary of address phrase expressions. One embodiment of the invention includes an apparatus for generating a dictionary of target phrases that includes an input interface for receiving as its input a first address phrase included in a list of address phrase expressions, a memory for storing a dictionary of address phrase variants, including rules for generating variants of address phrase expressions, and a processing device for generating variants of address phrases which generates a second address phrase which is different in expression from the first address phrase to output the second address phrase to a storage device holding the dictionary of target phrases, based on the input first address phrase, and the knowledge of rules about variants included in the dictionary of address phrase variants.

Place name expressing dictionary generating method and its apparatus

A sign language telephone device is offered which enables an aurally handicapped person who uses the sign language to converse with a normal person at a distant place who does not know the sign language. The sign language telephone device is placed on the side of the aurally handicapped person, and hand gestures of the sign language inputted from a sign language input means are recognized as the sign language, and the recognized sign language is translated to Japanese. The translated Japanese word train is converted to synthesized voices and it is transmitted to a videophone on the side of a normal person. The voices from the videophone are recognized, and the recognized Japanese is translated to the sign language to generate sign language animations and they are displayed on the screen of a TV set on the side of the aurally handicapped person. According to the present invention, it is made possible for an aurally handicapped person to have conversation easily with a normal person at a distant place who does not know the sign language through an existing network.

An image of the surface of the mail is input and segmented into at least one character string candidate. At least one address area candidate is extracted from the image based upon the segmented character string candidate. One address area candidate extracted from the image is selected as a receiver address by analyzing each address area candidate based on predetermined position information indicating a usual position of a receiver address area, character direction information indicating a character direction of a character string appropriate for the predetermined position information, and key character string information indicating a character string most likely to exist in a receiver address. Characters in character strings of the selected address area candidate are recognized as a receiver address.

An address reader method and apparatus for recognizing a receiver address on a surface of mail. In the invention an image of the surface of the mail is input and segmented into at least one character string candidate. At least one address area candidate is extracted from the image based upon the segmented character string candidate. One of the address area candidates extracted from the image is selected as a receiver address of the mail by analyzing each of the address area candidates based on predetermined position information indicating a usual position of a receiver address area, character direction information indicating a character direction of a character string appropriate for the predetermined position information, and key character string information indicating a character string most likely to exist in a receiver address. A method for making document information searches. In performing a document search with respect to the desired key word, two stages of presearch are carried out. In a first stage of presearch, a character component table in which an existence of character codes for every document is stated with respect to all the character codes contained in the group of document text data of stored documents is generated, and the character component table is searched for all the character strings constituting a desiredly designated search subject key word to thereby extract all the documents each containing all the character codes constituting the search subject key word. In a second stage of presearch, contracted text data for every document in which adjuncts and duplication of repeatedly stated words contained in advance in the text data are eliminated is generated, and the documents each containing the search subject key words by word are extracted from the documents extracted by the first presearch. After the second stage of presearch, text search is performed in accordance with a neighbor condition, a contextual condition, or the like.

Presearch type document search method and apparatus

A document retrieval method and system for retrieving, from a document database storing document data in the form of character codes, a document which contains given search terms and which meets a given search query condition. From documents loaded from the document database, a document containing terms which match the search terms is searched to generate document identification (ID) information including a document identifier of the searched document and containing match terms found to match with the search terms as well as term identifiers of the match terms and position information of the match terms in the searched document. A decision is then made as to whether or not the position information of the match terms satisfies a positional condition specified in the search query condition concerning a positional relation between the search terms, and match information is then generated indicating satisfaction of the search query condition when the positional condition is satisfied. Through a proximity condition decision, it is ascertained whether the match terms satisfy an inter-term distance condition specified in the search query condition. Through a logical condition, it is decided whether the match terms satisfy a logical condition between the search terms specified in the search query condition.

An information storage and retrieval system which permits storage of fact information represented in terms of conceptual concepts expressing things and relational concepts expressing relations therebetween on a knowledge base, easy inputting and correction of the fact information, easy browsing and retrieval of the fact information and display of the fact information with effective use of a limited view area, and also to provide a display method used in the information storage and retrieval system. Information storage and retrieval system and display method therefor

A document storage and retrieval system is provided with means for storing a document body in the form of image, means for storing text information in the form of a character code string for retrieval, means for executing a retrieval with reference to the text information, and means for displaying a document image relating thereto on a retrieval terminal according to the retrieval result. Such a form of the system is available for retrieving the full contents of a document and also for displaying the document body printed in a format easy to read straight in the form of image. Accordingly, users are capable of retrieving documents with arbitrary words and also capable of reading even such a document as is complicated to include mathematical expressions and charts through a terminal in the form of image, the same as on paper. Further, the invention provides a system wherein the text information for retrieval is extracted automatically from the document image through character recognition.
