In a belt continuously-variable transmission, a casing or a housing is formed with an air communicating hole extending through an upper part of the casing or the housing. The casing and the housing include inner walls defining an air breather chamber and communicating parts. The air breather chamber is defined in a region located above a joint between the casing and the housing and ranging from an upper side of the second shaft to an upper side of the first shaft and between the second shaft and the first shaft. The communicating parts are defined at a position in the upper side of the first shaft and at a position between the second shaft and the first shaft. The air breather chamber communicates with open air via the air communicating hole, and communicates with an inside part of a casing assembly via each of the communicating parts.

Belt continuously-variable transmission

First and second oil flow passages are defined in a wall portion of a transmission casing. The first oil flow passage has an open end exposed to an interior of the casing. The second oil passage is connected to the first oil passage through a connection opening defined by the first oil passage. A separate pipe member has a predetermined end portion that is inserted into the first oil passage from the open end of the same. The predetermined end portion comprises a cylindrical portion having a fixed length; an end opening defined by an end of the cylindrical portion and exposed to the first oil passage; and an orifice opening defined by a side wall of the cylindrical portion. The orifice opening is blocked by an inner wall of the first oil passage when the connection opening takes a first position relative to the open end of the first oil passage, and exposed to the second oil passage when the connection opening takes a second position relative to the open end of the first oil passage. The second position is closer to the open end of the first oil passage than the first position is.

Oil flow passage arrangement of automatic transmission

An oil discharge structure of a baffle plate for discharging oil from a space of a gear side to a space of a transmission side with a space-saving design is provided. A slit is formed in a side face plate facing a final gear of a case side baffle plate to discharge the oil from an oil volume X in the circumference of the final gear to an oil volume Y stored in a clearance between the case side baffle plate and the transmission case, and in a clearance between the housing side baffle plate and the housing. This provides a compact structure that is not larger in a radial direction of the final gear and discharges the oil in the oil volume X.

There is provided an oil separating structure of an automatic transmission, which makes it difficult for an oil strainer of an oil pump to draw oil containing air bubbles. A baffle plate base separates a space around the oil strainer and a space around a driven sprocket as well as a final gear, and therefore, oil containing air bubbles formed as a result of agitation by the driven sprocket, chain, and final gear does not flow directly into the oil strainer. As a result, the oil strainer is unlikely to draw oil containing air bubbles.

A belt-type continuously-variable transmission includes a casing enclosing a primary pulley, a secondary pulley, a belt connecting the pulleys and a parking gear; and a side cover subassembly including a side cover joined to the casing. The side cover assembly further includes a parking pawl arranged to engage with the parking gear, a support member arranged to support the parking pawl; and a return spring.

Belt-type continuously-variable transmission

The invention relates to a bearing for supporting a moving member having a surface of a first arithmetical mean roughness. This bearing is made of an abrasion-resistant aluminum alloy containing 14.0-17.5 wt% of Si, 2.0-5.0 wt% of Cu, 0.1-1.0 wt% of Mg, 0.3-0.8 wt% of Mn, 0.1-0.3 wt% of Cr, 0.05-0.20 wt% of Ti, 0.003-0.05 wt% of P, not greater than 1.5 wt% of Fe, less than 0.005 wt% of Ca, and aluminum as a remainder. The aluminum alloy contains silicon primary crystals, and first and second intermetallic compounds. Each of the silicon primary crystals and these intermetallic compounds has an average particle diameter from 8 to 30 .mu.m. The silicon primary crystals and the first and second intermetallic compounds respectively have first, second and third fractions each ranging from 5 to 40 .mu.m in particle diameter. The total area of the first, second and third fractions on a two-dimensional section of the alloy is from 5 to 10% by area, based on the total area of the section. The bearing has a surface having a second arithmetical mean roughness which is greater than the first one and is from 0.3 to 3.0 .mu.m. The bearing is superior in abrasion resistance, seizure resistance and running-in characteristic, and is capable of reducing abrasion even if used under a condition of inferior lubrication.

In a transmission case section for an automatic transaxle case, a center axis of a governor receiving portion is arranged between a center axis of a main power train and a center axis of a reduction gear when viewed in plane perpendicular to the center axis of the main power train and the center axis of the final drive gear. A nearly right-angled triangular reinforcement is formed in a corner between a main power train receiving portion and differential side cover portion. The governor receiving portion is formed so as to extend through the reinforcement.

In an automatic transaxle having an idler gear center axis below a line interconnecting a main power train center axis and a differential center axis, a control valve assembly is disposed on one of opposite sides of a transaxle case divided by the idler gear center axis. The differential is disposed on the other of the opposite sides of the transaxle. An oil storing chamber is disposed next to the control valve assembly and free from occupation by same. The oil storing chamber extends from one to the other of the opposite sides of the transaxle case.

An oil passage structure in a transmission casing of an automotive automatic transmission, comprises, at an outer peripheral abutting surface between the transmission casing and the oil pump cover, an opening defined in the transmission casing which is exposed to the abutting surface of the transmission casing and is communicated with the inlet port of the valve assembly provided in the bottom section of the transmission through a single vertical oil channel formed in the transmission casing by machining to provide the shortest distance between the inlet port of the valve assembly and the opening. The oil passage structure also comprises an oil groove which is integrally formed on the abutting surface by die-casting and includes a point connecting the outlet port of the oil pump through an oil passage defined in the oil pump cover, to intercommunicate the opening and the connecting point.

A chamber having therein a V-belt type continuously variable transmission is separated from another chamber having therein a differential mechanism. These chambers, however, are in fluid communication with an oil pan via generally vertical holes.

An air breather device of an automatic transmission is disclosed, which comprises a first recessed portion formed on a transmission housing near a mating edge portion of the same, and a second recessed portion formed on a converter housing near a mating edge portion of the same. Upon coupling of these housings with their mating edge portions sealingly mated, the first and second recessed portions are mated with each other to constitute a single air breather chamber having a sufficient capacity.

In an automatic transmission, an arrangement for discharging band servo operating hydraulic pressure comprises an upstanding passage and a communication passage formed in a transmission case, and a discharge valve installed in the communication passage. The upstanding passage is so formed as to extend inwardly or upwardly from a control valve body joining surface of the transmission case. The communication passage is so formed as to extend inwardly from an outer peripheral portion of the transmission case adjacent an oil pump cover joining surface thereof to fluidly connect a servo cylinder chamber to the upstanding passage which is in turn fluidly connected to a servo release passage of a control valve assembly. The discharge valve is in the form of a check valve and disposed in the open end of the communication passage which is located at the above described peripheral portion of the transmission case adjacent the oil pump cover joining surface thereof.

A casing receiving therein a power transmitting mechanism has opposed upper and lower side portions. A control valve for controlling a gear shift of a transmission is installed in the lower side portion of the casing. A band brake includes a brake band, a servomotor operatively connected to the control valve and one end of the brake band for selectively putting the brake band into a brake engaged state and a brake disengaged state and an anchor pin operatively connected to the other end of the brake band for receiving a reaction force therefrom. The servomotor and the anchor pin are installed in the upper side portion of the casing.
