An electromagnetic relay has a base provided with an insulation enclosure and with a contact block outwardly of the enclosure. An electromagnet block is received within the enclosure and includes a coil, yokes, and an armature extending through the coil along the length of the enclosure. The armature is magnetically coupled to the coil and is movable relative to the yokes upon energization of the coil. A card is provided to connect the armature and a movable contact of the contact block for closing and opening the contact. A cover fitted on the base includes an insulation partition which extends between the enclosure and the contact block to accomplish a double-wall insulation between the electromagnet and the contact block. The card has a trunk for connection with the armature and a crosspiece for connection with the movable contact. The trunk extends into the enclosure through a front is opening thereof to fit around the end of the armature such that the entire length of the armature is insulated from the contact block by the enclosure and by the trunk. The crosspiece extends from the trunk longitudinal outwardly of the enclosure for connection with the movable contact outwardly of the insulation enclosure and partition. Further, the partition is contiguous along substantially the entire length of the enclosure. With these features, the relay can have an improved double-wall insulation between the electromagnet block and the contact block without leaving any insulation break along the length of the electromagnet block.

Electromagnetic relay

An electrostatic relay comprises at least one fixed base having a fixed electrode and an actuator frame having a movable electrode. The fixed base carries a pair of fixed contacts insulated from the fixed electrode. The movable electrode carries a movable contact insulated from the movable electrode. The movable electrode extends along the fixed electrode and is pivotally supported at its one longitudinal end relative to the fixed base so as to pivot between two contacting positions of closing and opening the movable contact to and from the fixed contacts. The movable contact is formed at the other longitudinal end of the movable electrode. A control voltage source is connected across the fixed electrode and the movable electrode to generate a potential difference therebetween for developing an electrostatic force by which the movable electrode is attracted toward said fixed electrode to move into one of the two contacting positions. The electrostatic relay is characterized in that the movable electrode is cooperative with the fixed electrode to define therebetween an elongate gap which is narrower toward the one longitudinal end about which the movable electrode pivot than at the other longitudinal end of the movable electrode at which the movable contact is carried.

Electrostatic relay

The acceleration applied to a selected device such as a magnetic disc drive system can be detected by the use of an acceleration detector having at least one piezoelectric acceleration sensor unit. The sensor unit includes a piezoelectric element, a supporting member for the piezoelectric element and two electrical leads. The piezoelectric element is formed with a pair of elongate sheets made of a piezoelectric ceramic and an intermediate insulation layer interposed between the elongate sheets to generate a voltage difference instantaneously therebetween in response to the acceleration of the acceleration detector. The support member is made of an electrically insulating resin, and has a concave which is formed with side and bottom walls and a top opening. The side wall is provided with a slit in which the piezoelectric element is tightly caught in such a manner as to divide the concave into two open-chambers and be supported by the support member in a cantilever fashion. The electrical leads extend into the concave to make electrical connections between the elongate sheets and the electrical leads. In the present invention, since the piezoelectric element can be attached accurately at a predetermined direction to the supporting member by forcing it into the slit, it is possible to stably supply the acceleration detector having excellent sensitivity to the acceleration without causing variations in detecting direction of the acceleration.

Acceleration detector

An electrostatic relay essentially comprises a fixed electrode with a fixed contact insulated therefrom, a movable electrode plate with a movable contact insulated therefrom, and a fixed pair of oppositely charged electrets. The movable electrode plate is pivotally supported at a pivot in a cantilever fashion or a seesaw fashion, and also to move about the pivot axis relative to the fixed electrode between two rest positions of closing and opening the contacts. A control voltage source is connected across the fixed electrode and the movable electrode plate to generate a potential difference therebetween. The electrets are disposed adjacent the movable electrode plate to generate electrostatic forces attracting and repelling the movable electrode plate, respectively, when the movable electrode plate is charged to a given polarity. That is, the attracting and repelling forces are cooperative to produce a torque for moving the movable electrode plate in one direction from one of the rest positions to the other. The electrostatic relay is useful for precisely and rapidly operating the relay.

A switching system for selectively distributing a laser beam from a laser source to one of a plurality of welding stations for laser welding thereat. The system includes a first optical fiber directing the laser beam therethrough, and a pair of second optical fibers leading to the welding stations, respectively. A switching device connects the first optical fiber selectively to one of the second optical fibers so as to pass the laser beam to the corresponding welding station for enabling the laser welding thereat. The switching device comprises a housing having a longitudinal axis and holding input ends of the second optical fibers in parallel relation with the longitudinal axis, a carrier supporting an output end of the first optical fiber and linearly movable together therewith within the housing in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis such that the output end of the first optical fiber comes into and out of closely end-to-end facing relation to the input ends of the second optical fibers. An electromagnetic relay is included to have an armature which is movable between two positions and operatively connected to move the carrier for aligning the output end of the first optical fiber to the input end of a selected one of the second optical fibers for passing the laser beam to the selected one of the second optical fibers. The output and input ends of the optical fibers are each provided on with a heat-radiating sleeve for dissipation of heat.

Optical fiber switching system for laser welding

A miniaturized electromagnet has an enhanced armature attraction force and reliable armature movement. The electromagnet comprises an L-shaped flat magnetic plate of magnetic material with a horizontally extending core and a first yoke leg depending from one end of the core. An excitation coil is wound around the core. A second yoke member is formed separately from the magnetic plate into a plate configuration and is coupled secured at its upper end to the other end of the core so as to depend therefrom in an opposed relation to the first yoke leg. The lower end portion of the second yoke leg is bent toward the first yoke leg to define thereat a pole plate extending parallel with the core. An armature extends in a parallel relation to the core and is magnetically coupled at its one end to the first yoke leg and is pivotally supported adjacent thereto such that the armature is pivotable within a horizontal plane between set and reset positions of having the pole end attracted to and spaced away from the second yoke leg in response to the energization and deenergization of the excitation coil, respectively. With the provision of the pole plate extending toward the first yoke leg, the armature can be made to have a correspondingly reduced effective length and equivalent mass, whereby the armature can have an increased magnetically attraction force for reliable electromagnetic operation.

Miniature electromagnetic assembly and relay with the miniature

An I/O relay interface module for mounting a plurality of relays which are adapted to be connected to individual external I/O devices to be controlled or monitored by a central controller. The I/O module comprises a plurality of relay sockets for detachably receiving the relays, respectively, and a terminal section including wire terminals internally connected to the relays through the sockets for connection between the relays and the external devices. An I/O connector is provided on the I/O module for connection with the central controller to receive therefrom control signals for energizing the relays for control of the associated devices or transmit to the central controller monitor signals from the relays as indicative of the operation of the associated devices. Also included in the I/O module is an expansion I/O connector for connection with one or more additional I/O relays provided in association with additional I/O devices such that the additional I/O devices can be also controlled or be monitored by the center controller through the I/O relay interface module. Thus, the I/O interface module can be expanded to control or monitor one or more additional I/O devices through the respective relays.

I/O relay interface module

A polarized electromagnetic relay having a pair of first and second pole members which are magnetized to opposite polarity by a permanent magnet coupled thereto and which define therebetween a magnetic gap into which the other end of the armature extends. The first pole member and the armature are magnetically coupled to the base so as to cause a magnet flux of the permanent magnet to circulate through the second pole member, the armature, the base, and the first pole member for attracting the armature to the second pole member. Upon energization of the coil, a resulting coil flux circulates through the armature, the base, and the first pole member in opposing direction to the magnet flux for attracting the armature to the first pole member. A cover and base of magnetic material is included to fit over the base and be magnetically coupled thereto. The second pole member is disposed adjacent to the inner wall of the cover so as to define therebetween an air gap which is cooperative with the second pole member, the armature, base, and the cover in order to circulate an additional coil flux in the opposing direction to the magnet flux across the second pole member and the armature upon energization of the coil, weakening the magnetic flux and therefore expediting the armature movement by the coil flux to thereby improve repsonse sensitivity.

Polarized electromagnetic relay

An improved magnetic actuator mechanism suitable for dot printing mechanisms for use in a wire matrix dot printer. The present magnetic actuator mechanism comprises an armature movable between a reset position and an actuated position, a permanent magnet for attracting the armature toward the reset position, and an electromagnet which, when energized, generates in the armature a magnetic flux opposite to and larger than the magnetic flux generated therein by the permanent magnet. The armature is thus moved to the actuated position by the turn of the magnetization direction in the armature when the electromagnet is energized. Therefore, in the present invention, the armature can have the magnetic fluxes in the opposite directions by the action of the permanent magnet and electromagnet combination so as to provide the armature of smaller cross sectional area or thickness with a higher magnetic force without causing the magnetic saturation thereof, which allows the use of an armature of less thickness or weight to assure high speed operation in response to a driving signal.

Magnetic actuator mechanism

A current detecting device includes high frequency oscillation detecting circuits which, when a saturable reactor oscillates at a high frequency, detect the high frequency oscillation of the reactor and generate a high level output. Thus, when a large current flows through the reactor and the magnetization characteristic of the reactor is varied to generate a normal detection output, the reactor oscillation due to the large current is detected and an operating circuit for driving an external device is energized.

Current detecting apparatus

A.C. switching circuit capable of opening and closing contacts without generating any arc. When D.C. source restores from its interruption, the contacts are maintained in or shifted to a predetermined state. A change-over switch is provided for selecting as required whether the contacts are to be forcibly opened or closed after the D.C. source interruption, or whether the previous state of the contacts is to be maintained.

A.C. Switching circuit

A drive circuit for a latching relay includes a flip-flop, a timer and a semiconductive switching circuit for the relay. First and second input signals are applied to the flip-flop and first and second control signals at the output of the flip-flop are applied alternately to the timer as a time limit output for controlling the energization of the switching circuit in concert with a high-speed changeover signal.

Drive circuit for a latching relay

Circuit arrangements for the control of a bistable relay having a capacitor connected in series with the relay coil. The series connection of the coil and the capacitor is connected to an excitation voltage for actuating the relay and simultaneous charging of the capacitor. When the excitation voltage is removed, the series connection is short-circuited through a semiconductor switch, whereby the capacitor is discharged and the relay switched back to its initial position. The bistable relay is thus operated as monostable relay.

Circuit arrangements for the control of a bistable relay

A reed type relay comprises a frame forming a cavity and having coil terminals. A bobbin assembly containing a coil is mounted in the cavity, this assembly having a flange at each end. A pair of magnetic poles energized by a permanent magnet as well as by the coil is pressed into one of these flanges and the base end of a reed is pressed into the other. This reed is elongated and extends along the bobbin assembly with its tip located between the poles so as to be movable into engagement with each of them.

Reed relay

A flat type electromagnetic relay wherein respective members forming normally closed contacts and normally opened contacts and actuating such contacts are stacked on one another to substantially enclose electromagnet assembly of which core and coil frame are integrally formed to be flat. A balance spring urges a card operatively coupled to an armature of the assembly into non-attracted position of the armature for normal positions of the contacts with a balanced constant force with reference to attracting force to the armature and resilient force of normally opened contact spring. The assembly includes means for positioning the respective members when assembled with a single assembling direction.
