A sealed prismatic battery has a battery case made of a plurality of prismatic cell cases coupled together via partition walls. Electrode plate groups are accommodated together with liquid electrolyte in each of the cell cases. Each electrode plate group consists of alternately stacked-up positive and negative electrode plates with separators interposed therebetween, lead portions of positive and negative electrode plates being protruded on opposite sides. Collectors are bonded to these lead portions. Between the collectors and end walls (and/or partition walls) of the battery case are provided conductive plates that are connected to the collectors one or more than one location in their middle part so as to decrease the resistance between connection terminals and the electrode plate groups.

Sealed prismatic battery

A prismatic sealed battery has a prismatic battery case () which includes a plurality of prismatic containers () coupled in a row via partitions (), electrode plate assemblies (), and collectors () which are joined to lead portions on both sides of the electrode plate assemblies (). Each container () contains the electrode plate assembly () to which said collectorsare joined. An opening () is formed in at least one side wall () of the prismatic battery case () and in a position where each partition () is disposed, in such a manner as to face the containers () on both sides, and a conductive connection member () disposed in the opening () is connected to the collectors () on both sides of the partition (). Since the current-carrying path between the electrode plate assemblies () becomes short, internal resistance decreases, and hence internal resistance per cell () is reduced. Even and full use of the whole electrode plate assembly () achieves higher power output.

Prismatic sealed battery

Positive and negative electrode plates, after being dried, are layered alternately upon one another with intervening separators therebetween to constitute electrode plate groups. These electrode plate groups are transferred in succession from one to another of a plurality of preliminary chambers, which are respectively constructed to be able to create vacuum of various levels and arranged so that the vacuum level is gradually increased, and finally introduced into a processing chamber in which the vacuum level is highest, where the welding of collector plates to the electrode plate groups is performed with an electronic beam irradiating device. After that, the electrode plate groups are taken out through a post-processing chamber.

Battery manufacturing method and apparatus

A plurality of positive electrode plates and negative electrode plates are stacked alternately upon one another with intervening separators therebetween, wherein lateral edges of the positive electrode plates protrude beyond the negative electrode plates on one side, and lateral edges of the negative electrode plates protrude beyond the group of positive electrode plates on the opposite side. Collector plates are brought in tight contact with respective lateral edges of the positive and negative electrode plates, and heat is applied to the collector plate on an opposite surface of the electrode plates from a non-contact type heat source at several locations in lines along a direction in which the electrode plates are stacked.

Electrode plate unit for rechargeable battery and manufacturing method thereof

A rectangular electrode plate including a core metal sheet and a mixture paste coated thereon has a lead on one long side edge thereof where no mixture is coated, and a mixture non-coated part on the other side edge thereof. Positioning holes are punched only in the lead so that the stress exerted when punching the holes will not cause the mixture paste to fall off. Stacked electrode plates are accommodated within a magazine with a certain clearance between the three side edges of the electrodes other than the lead and the inner surface of the magazine, and fed one by one to be assembled into an electrode plate group to form a battery.

Rectangular electrode and lead part therefor

The battery module comprises a plurality of cells encased in prismatic cell cases having short lateral walls and long lateral walls coupled together as one piece. Each of the cells accommodates therein a group of electrode plates and liquid electrolyte, wherein collector plates are connected respectively to the groups of positive and negative electrode plates at opposite lateral edges thereof. Connection holes are formed at upper edge portions of the short lateral walls of the cell cases, and the collector plates are formed with connection bosses that fit into the connection holes, so that the connection bosses of the collector plates in neighboring cells are abutted each other and welded together, whereby two adjacent cells are connected to each other.

Battery module, and connecting structure of cells in the battery module

Positive electrode plates and negative electrode plates are arranged alternately with intervening separators, and their end faces are respectively butted on collector plates. A solder material made from nickel alloy is disposed on the surfaces of the collector plates, which are made from nickel. An electron beam is irradiated onto the collector plates for causing the solder material to melt, thereby bonding the end faces of the positive and negative electrode plates with the collector plates.

Square type enclosed storage battery

The invention provides long life alkaline storage batteries free from short-circuiting using plates having a punching metal as a substrate. In the alkaline storage batteries of the present invention, at least one of the positive plate and the negative plate comprises a punching metal as a substrate, the size thereof is different from that of another plate, and the plates are arranged so that the cut side of the plate having the punching metal substrate at which the substrate is cut through the punched portions does not overlap the side of the adjacent plate of opposite polarity. The plates having such a construction prevents needle-shaped projections produced by cutting the substrate through the punched portions from causing the short-circuiting with the adjacent plate of opposite polarity.
