A polycarbonate composition comprises chloride, sulfate, phosphate or a combination of two or more of the foregoing ionic species in an amount of zero to about 100 parts per billion based on the total weight of the composition; and phenol, carbonic diester, aromatic dihydroxy compound or combination of two or more of the foregoing organic compounds in an amount of zero to about 500 parts per million by weight based on the total weight of the composition; wherein the polycarbonate has a weight average molecular weight of about 40,000 to about 90,000 dalton as determined by gel permeation chromatography using polystyrene standards and a melt volume rate of about 1 to about 35 cm/10 minutes when measured at about 300&#xb0; C. with a force of about 1.2 kilograms.

Polycarbonate composition and method of making thereof

The present invention provides a composition comprising polycarbonate wherein the polycarbonate has a very low Fries content (e.g., above 5 ppm and below 360 ppm). The present invention also provides a polycarbonate having a very low Fries content which is made by the melt process. This polycarbonate has high ductility and high impact strength. The invention also provides a method for making these compositions. Another aspect of the invention is an optical disk comprising polycarbonate having a very low Fries content which is made by the melt process. Such optical disks resist breakage due to bending.

Method for the preparation of polycarbonate with reduced levels of fries

The present invention provides a method for making a polycarbonate composition. The polycarbonate is prepared by melt synthesis using a sulfur-containing acid compound to at least partially quench the melt catalyst. The polycarbonate composition comprises said polycarbonate, phosphorous acid, further sulfur-containing acid compound and an ester derived from a mono-fatty acid and a polyhydric alcohol.

The object of the present invention is to provide a flame-retardant resin composition which has a high heat resistance, superior impact resistance and superior flame-retarding properties. The present invention provides a flame-retardant resin composition which is characterized by the fact that said composition contains (A) a polycarbonate type resin, (B) a silicone resin constructed from siloxane units expressed by the formula RSiO (T units) and siloxane units expressed by the formula R SiO (M units), or a silicone resin constructed from T units, M units and siloxane units expressed by the formula SiO (Q units) (R indicates an unsubstituted or substituted monovalent hydrocarbon group with 1 to 10 carbon atoms), and (C) an anti-drip agent, and the aforementioned composition contains 0.1 to 9 parts by weight of the abovementioned silicone resin (B), and 0.01 to 10 parts by weight of the abovementioned anti-drip agent, per 100 parts by weight of the abovementioned polycarbonate resin (A).

Flame-retardant resin composition and molded article consisting of the same

A composition is provided which comprises a functionalized poly(phenylene ether) resin, poly(arylene sulfide) resin, epoxy functional alpha-olefin elastomer, elastomeric block copolymer, and a metal salt. The composition is preferably prepared by premixing a poly(phenylene ether) resin with an organic acid and a vinyl aromatic-diene block copolymer to form a premix, and then compounding the premix with an epoxy functional alpha-olefin elastomer, a poly(arylene sulfide) resin and a metal salt of an organic acid. The composition has enhanced levels of mechanical properties such as impact strength, and is suitable for making molded articles such as vertical automotive body panels.

A polycarbonate production method, characterized in that a dihydroxy compound and a carbonic acid diester are subjected to melt polycondensation in the presence of a catalyst containing an alkali metal compound and/or alkaline-earth metal compound in an amount of 1&times;10,to 1&times;10,mol per mole of dihydroxy compound; wherein a sulfonic acid ester compound and a transition metal scavenger are also added to the reaction product; and wherein the polycarbonate is treated at a reduced pressure.

Increasing the endcap level to a level greater than about 90% for Optical Quality (OQ) Melt Polycarbonate significantly reduces the as-molded static charge for injection molded parts for Optical Disc applications. The use of resins with higher endcap levels in combination with antistatic additives provides a highly robust formulation suitable for even the most demanding emerging formats as Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) and in all commercial Optical media molding machines. Thus, optical quality polycarbonates are prepared by performing a base-catalyzed polymerization of a diaryl carbonate and a dihydric phenol under conditions effective to produce a polycarbonate product having an endcap level of 90% or greater.

The present invention provides a polyamide resin composition which has low water absorption and simultaneously has satisfactory combustion properties. Illustrative compositions contain 20-80 parts by weight of polyamide resin and 80-20 parts by weight of polyphenylene ether resin or a mixture of this resin and polystyrene resin, as well as 0.01-10 parts by weight of a compatibilizer, 1-50 parts by weight of an uncured phenol novolak resin, and 0-80 parts by weight of a rubber component wherein the weights of the compatibilizer, uncured phenol novolak resin and rubber component is based on a total of 100 parts by weight of polyamide and polyphenylene ether resins.

A resin composition which has improved resistance to yellowing due to light without loss of the superior characteristics of polyphenylene ether polyamide resins comprises (A) a polyphenylene ether resin, (B) a polyamide resin, (C) a styrene thermoplastic resin, (D) a pigment; wherein the styrene thermoplastic resin and the pigment are dispersed in the polyphenylene ether resin and the polyphenylene ether resin is a particulate dispersion in the polyamide resin. Thermoplastic resin composition

Resin composition comprising 8-10 parts by weight of a polyphenylene ether resin, 90-20 parts by weight of a polyamide resin, and 30-70 parts by weight, per 100 parts by weight of the polyphenylene ether resin and the polyamide resin combined, of a plate or flake like inorganic filler wherein the inorganic filler has an average particle size of no more than 5 .mu.m and as aspect ratio of no less than 3 and wherein the difference between the crystallization initiation temperature of a composition comprising 90 weight percent polyamide and 10 weight percent of the inorganic filler and the crystallization initiation temperature of the polyamide resin is 5.degree. C. or less. The resin compositions have excellent surface smoothness, high rigidity, a small linear expansion coefficient, and good impact resistance, heat resistance and chemical resistance.

The present inventions provides polyphenylene ether (PPE)/polyamide (PA) resin compositions having excellent dimensional stability when they absorb moisture, and good mechanical and other properties. Resin compositions of (A) 10-80 wt. parts PPE resins and (B) 90-20 wt. parts PA resins, in which the PA resins (a) are polymers formed by condensation of linear aliphatic diamines with linear aliphatic dicarboxylic acids and aromatic dicarboxylic acids, and (b) have terminal amino group contents of at least 0.4 mequiv/g.
