A surface-treated steel sheet including a steel sheet, a zinc-based plated layer, and a chemical conversion treatment layer that contains Si, C, O and P, and has a C concentration of 20.0 mass % or more, an O concentration of 15.0 mass % or more, a Si concentration of 10.0 mass % or more, and a P concentration of 0.10 mass % or more. When t is a thickness of the chemical conversion treatment layer, an area from a surface to a position of t/10 from the surface is a surface layer region, an area from the position of 9t/10 from the surface to an interface between the treatment layer and the plated layer is an interface side region, and a region sandwiched therebetween is an intermediate region. A maximum value of a P concentration of the surface layer region is 1.5 times to 5.0 times the average P concentration of an intermediate region.

A surface-treated steel sheet includes: a base steel sheet; a plated layer formed on the base steel sheet and containing 50 mass % or more of Zn and 0.3 mass % or more of Mg; and a chemical conversion coating formed on the plated layer. A surface-treated metal material includes a metal sheet, a plating layer formed on the metal sheet and containing aluminum, magnesium, and zinc, and a composite coating formed on a surface of the plating layer, the composite coating including an organic silicon compound, one or two of a zirconium compound and a titanium compound, a phosphoric acid compound, a fluorine compound, and a vanadium compound, wherein, when a surface of the composite coating is analyzed at a spot size of φ30 μm using micro-fluorescent X-rays, a maximum value of V/Zn, which is a mass ratio of a V content to a Zn content, is 0.010 to 0.100.

The object of the invention is to provide a surface-treated steel sheet having a coating having fine adhesiveness to an adhesive on the surface and having excellent corrosion resistance, and a production method thereof. Provided is a surface-treated steel sheet including: a steel sheet; a plated layer containing zinc on the steel sheet; and a coating on the plated layer, wherein the coating contains an acrylic resin, zirconium, vanadium, phosphorus and cobalt, and the acrylic resin has an area ratio of 80 to 100 area % in an area from a surface to a thickness of one-fifth of a film thickness of the coating, and an area ratio of 5 to 50 area % in an area including areas from the film thickness center of the coating to a thickness of one-tenth of the film thickness toward the surface side and toward the plated layer side.
