Physical characteristics of ATO fine particles capable of exhibiting such optical properties as a high visible light transmittance, a low solar radiation transmittance, and a low haze value when the ATO fine particles are formed on a transparent substrate or in the substrate are clarified, and the ATO fine particles having the physical characteristics thereof are manufactured. The ATO fine particles having such physical characteristics that a size of a crystallite constituting the ATO fine particles is 4 to 125 nm, and that a specific surface area of the fine particles of 5 to 110 m/g can exhibit the above-described optical properties, and an example of a method for manufacturing thereof is to parallel-drop an antimony chloride alcoholic solution and an ammonium hydrogen carbonate aqueous solution in a tin chloride aqueous solution, thoroughly wash generated precipitates, dry and calcinate them in an atmosphere, thereby the ATO fine particles are manufactured.

A film for cutting off heat rays having a high transmittance and a low reflectivity of visible light, a low transmittance and a high reflectivity of near infrared radiation and a surface resistivity of at least about 10,ohms/square is formed from a coating liquid is a dispersion containing fine particles of borides having an average diameter not exceeding 100 nm. The liquid disperison is coated on a surface and heated. The dispersion may further contain fine particles of at least one ruthenium or iridium oxide having an average diameter not exceeding 100 nm.

Film for cutting off heat rays and a coating liquid for forming the same

A film for cutting off heat rays having a high transmittance and a low reflectivity of visible light, a low transmittance and a high reflectivity of near infrared radiation and a surface resistivity of at least about 10,ohms/square. The film is easy to form at a low cost by coating a surface with a coating liquid and heating it. The coating liquid is a dispersion containing fine particles of borides having an average diameter not exceeding 100 nm. The dispersion may further contain fine particles of at least one ruthenium or iridium oxide having an average diameter not exceeding 100 nm.

A coating solution for forming a selectively transmitting film which is effective for cutting off ultraviolet radiation in a wide range of wavelengths up to about 400 nm, maintains its stability and effect for a long time, has also a power of cutting off heat rays and a controlled transmittance of visible light, has any desired color produced by the addition of fine particles of an appropriate inorganic substance, and is applicable to glass in any existing building, or the like by a simple and inexpensive method using an appropriately selected binder, and a selectively transmitting film and a selectively transmitting multilayer film which are formed from the solution. The solution is a dispersion of fine particles having an average diameter of 100 nm or less of at least one of ruthenium oxide, titanium nitride, tantalum nitride, titanium silicide, molybdenum silicide, lanthanum boride, iron oxide and iron hydroxide oxide. It may also contain at least one of the alkoxides of silicon, zirconium, titanium and aluminum, and partially hydrolyzed polymers of those alkoxides, or a synthetic resin as a binder. The selectively transmitting film is formed by coating a base material with the solution, and hardening it. The selectively transmitting multilayer film has another film formed on the selectively transmitting film and containing at least one of the alkoxides of silicon, zirconium, titanium and aluminum, partially hydrolyzed polymers of those alkoxides, and a synthetic resin.

A coating solution which forms a heat-ray shielding film on a transparent base of glass or plastic includes a dispersion obtained by dispersing in a dispersion medium as its main component fine particles of one or more oxides selected from the group consisting of ruthenium-, iridium- and rhodium-containing oxides, the particles having an average particle diameter of 100 nm or less.
