An information processing apparatus includes: a power circuit that receives electricity supplied from a power supply; and a brightness control unit configured to control brightness of a display. The brightness control unit having reference values of brightness setting value that are setting values of the brightness: a first reference value when a power source type is an external power source; and a second reference value that is smaller than the first reference value and when the power source type is a battery. The brightness control unit setting the brightness setting value to a user setting value designated by a user in response to a user operation.

An information processing apparatus includes: a processor with variable rated power; and a power control unit which controls power consumption of the processor. When processing based on a specific application as an application program to implement a specific function is executed in foreground, the power control unit sets rated power corresponding to at least the specific function.

An information processing apparatus and an information processing method capable of fulfilling an image processing function expected in a selected power control mode are provided. An information processing apparatus includes: a main control unit that executes processing based on an operating system (OS) and that changes to a low power consumption mode to stop some functions including a display unit while making a predetermined function work; a setting information storage unit that stores a usage status mode based on usage status and setting information in association with one another, where the setting information indicates whether to stop the predetermined function implemented by a device driver added to the OS in the low power consumption mode; a mode control unit that changes the main control unit to the low power consumption mode; and a change processing unit that changes a stopped state of the predetermined function.

A method, apparatus and computer program product are disclosed. The method includes detecting ambient light around an electronic device, determining whether a user is present based on the ambient light, and controlling an operation of the electronic device. The apparatus includes a component that consumes electric power, a light sensor that detects ambient light, a frequency analyzing unit that specifies a frequency component, and a control unit that determines whether a user is present and controls an operation of the component. The computer program product includes code to perform detecting ambient light around an electronic device, determining whether a user is present based on the ambient light, and controlling an operation of the electronic device.

Method, apparatus and computer program product for user detection and operation control

An apparatus for transferring objects between multiple display units includes a processor of an information handling device and a memory that stores code executable by the processor. The code is executable by the processor to detect a screen object and/or a pointing input mechanism selecting the screen object being moved to a predetermined region of a first display unit and, in response to the detection, display at least part of the screen object on a second display unit.
