A music reproducing apparatus stores, in a storage device, playlist data that defines an order in which a plurality of music data sets are reproduced, displays the playlist data on a display unit, and reproduces music items in the order defined by the playlist data. The playlist data is formed of a plurality of item data sets each corresponding to a music data set. If a user defines an item data set corresponding to a music data set as one to be reproduced, the defined item is provided with a reproduction mark of 'check' and displayed with the reproduction mark on the display unit. On the display unit there is also displayed a total reproduction time Din which the reproduction time of music data sets defined as those to be reproduced is summed. Furthermore, item data sets for music data sets that are defined as those to be reproduced but are not stored in the storage device are provided with an irreproducibility mark of '???' and displayed with the irreproducibility mark on the display unit. The thus-configured music reproducing apparatus allows the user to establish, with simple operation, the order in which a plurality of music items are reproduced.

An automatic performance data processing apparatus which makes it possible to simply convert a plurality of automatic performance data into digital audio data in a batch. Each of a plurality of automatic performance data in an order designated by a playlist data stored in a storage device is sequentially reproduced. Audio signals generated by a tone generator that is supplied with tone generator driving events that occur in response to reproduction of each automatic performance data and that generates audio signals based on the supplied tone generator driving events are digitally recorded. The digitally recorded audio signals are stored in a storage medium as digital audio data.

There are provided a first storage section that stores text files each including at least text data, and a second storage section that stores registration data including predetermined performance environment setting information and text file selection information specifying a text file associated with a performance environment set on the basis of the performance environment setting information. Registration data is selected from the second storage section, and the text file associated with the performance environment is selected, in accordance with the text file selection information of the selected registration data, from among the text files stored in the first storage section. The text data included in the selected text file is displayed on the basis of the selected text file. In an alternative, control is performed to display lyrics data included in currently-reproduced automatic performance data or text data included in the text file stored in the first storage section.

A storage medium stores a large number of data sets or files as grouped in a smaller number of data groups or directories, each data group containing a plurality of data sets. On a control panel is provided a display screen, and are also provided a plurality of group call buttons to be individually allocated for the respective data groups and a plurality of data set designating buttons to be individually allocated for the respective data sets. When the user actuates an intended one of the group call buttons, identifying names or marks of the data sets of the called group are listed in a display screen for a further selection of the intended data set from among the listed group by user's actuation of an intended one of the data set designating buttons. This enables an easy and speedy selection of a particular intended data set from among a large number of data sets.

In a memory, there are stored a plurality of first automatic performance data and a plurality of second automatic performance data. Also, first note-conversion-related information is stored separately in corresponding relations to the individual first automatic performance data. Second note-conversion-related information is stored as information common to the second automatic performance data. In executing an automatic performance, the first and second automatic performance data are read out in accordance with the sequence of the performance so as to reproduce sounds based on note data contained in the read-out automatic performance data. During that time, notes of the first automatic performance data are converted in accordance with the first note-conversion-related information read out in correspondence with the first automatic performance data, while notes of the second automatic performance data are converted in accordance with the common second note-conversion-related information. Where automatic performance sounds are generatable in a plurality of channels, the note conversion process may be executed by processing automatic performance data to be generated in some of the channels as the first automatic performance data and automatic performance data to be generated in the other channels as the second automatic performance data.

In this case, when it is instructed to switch the pattern within the instructed bar, only a rhythm part of a plurality of parts is switched from the normal pattern to the special pattern. When it is instructed to switch the pattern at the beginning of the next bar, other parts in addition to the rhythm part are switched from the normal patterns to the special patterns.
