Disclosed are an electron emission thin-film with improved secondary electron emission characteristics compared with conventional ones, a plasma display panel including the electron emission thin-film, and their manufacturing methods. Using a vacuum deposition system, a protective layer that is an MgO thin-film is formed on a dielectric layer formed on a front glass substrate. At the time of deposition, angles that lines linking the central point of a target material for the protective layer respectively with the central point and both ends points of the front glass substrate form with the front glass substrate are exclusively in a range of 30 to 80&#xb0;. This enables at least some of MgO columnar crystals constituting the protective layer to have flat planes that are inclined with respect to the surface of the thin-film.

Electron emission thin-film, plasma display panel and methods for manufacturing

Electron emission thin-film, plasma display panel comprising it and method of manufacturing them

A plasma display panel (&ldquo;PDP&rdquo;) is provided with a protrusion lower than barrier ribs on an inner surface of a back plate substrate, and a phosphor layer formed on a rib surface within a unitary emission unit including a surface of the protrusion, thereby realizing the PDP of high brightness, high luminous efficiency and long operating life. Also, the PDP has a structure, in which a portion of the inner surface of the substrate is opened to a discharge space directly or through a protective layer, so as to improve power consumption remarkably. Further, the invention provides a production of the PDP with superior whiteness by way of controlling a balance of each color with shape of the respective protrusions. Moreover, an electrode can be formed easily and precisely on an upper part of the protrusion by providing a sloped surface for at least one end in a longitudinal direction of the protrusion. As a result, the invention provides the PDP that is of low power consumption, high brightness, high luminous efficiency, and is capable of performing a speedy and stable electric-discharge and displaying white color of high color temperature.

Plasma display panel, method of manufacturing the same, and display device using the same

The PDP of the present invention has first, second and third electrodes. Intervals between the first and second electrode is 0.2 mm or more. A plurality of third electrodes are formed. Protrusions which are shorter than ribs are formed between the plurality of third electrodes. The plurality of third electrodes are connected, in part, to one another or at least connected in part, such that they form a network. In the driving method of the PDP of the present invention, a self-erasing discharge is generated, and subsequently when a potential difference between the electrodes is increased, using the self-erasing discharge as a trigger, discharge is generated and light is emitted.

Plasma display panel, display apparatus using the same and driving method thereof

A DC gas discharge type image display device includes a front glass substrate; a rear glass substrate facing the front glass substrate, interposing a discharge gas therebetween; a set of anodes including a plurality of line electrodes formed on the rear glass substrate; a set of cathodes including a plurality of line electrodes placed on the front glass substrate so as to perpendicularly cross the set of anodes; and a plurality of discharge cells, each being provided so as to correspond to each of the cross points of the set of anodes and the set of cathodes. The device is driven in a refresh driving method or a memory driving method. As to the production of this device, the set of cathodes is formed by a spraying method. The cathodes are made from aluminum, nickel, an aluminum alloy or a nickel alloy. The discharge gas is a mixed gas of He and Xe.

Image display apparatus and method for fabricating the same

In a DC gas discharge type image display apparatus including: a front glass substrate; a rear glass substrate facing the front glass substrate, interposing a discharge gas therebetween; a set of anodes including a plurality of line electrodes formed on the rear glass substrate; a set of cathodes including a plurality of line electrodes placed on the front glass substrate so as to perpendicularly cross the set of anodes; and a plurality of discharge cells, each being provided so as to correspond to each of the cross points of the set of anodes and the set of cathodes, the apparatus being driven in a refresh driving method or a memory driving method, the set of cathodes are formed by a spraying method. The cathodes are made from aluminum, nickel, an aluminum alloy or a nickel alloy. The discharge gas is a mixed gas of He and Xe.
