Provided is a method for manufacturing an optical fiber glass preform in which a refractive index distribution is stable in a longitudinal direction of the glass preform. A method for manufacturing an optical fiber glass preform includes: depositing a porous glass preform by a vapor phase method; and sintering the porous glass preform in a heating region, when sintering the porous glass preform, the porous glass preform being inserted into a vessel of a sintering furnace, and an inside of the vessel being heated with a heater installed on an outer periphery of the vessel to form the heating region. The sintering is started after a surface temperature difference of the porous glass preform in a longitudinal direction is made 50° C. or lower.

Method for manufacturing optical fiber glass preform

A manufacturing apparatus of porous glass base material includes deposition apparatuses that manufacture a porous glass base material by generating raw material particles from vaporized raw material compounds in an oxyhydrogen flame, and then depositing the generated raw material particles on a rotating starting material. The manufacturing apparatus includes a storage container that stores liquid raw material compounds for each compound, a vapor generation mechanism that vaporizes the raw material compounds, and a gas channel that supplies the vaporized raw material compounds to the deposition apparatuses. The gas channel includes a common gas channel shared to supply vaporized raw material compounds to the plurality of deposition apparatuses, and individual gas channels branched off from the common gas channel to supply vaporized raw material compounds to each of the deposition apparatuses individually. Each of the individual gas channels has a flow controller, a steam valve, and a valve.

Manufacturing apparatus and manufacturing method of porous glass base material

To provide a fabrication method for a porous glass base material for optical fiber, the method including performing deposition of glass fine particles generated by using a burner for glass fine particle synthesis to form a porous glass base material, and heating this porous glass base material to be transformed into transparent glass to obtain a glass base material hardly containing any air bubbles. Provided is a fabrication method for a porous glass base material for optical fiber by depositing glass fine particles, which is generated in flame formed by ejecting a glass raw material gas and a combustible gas from a burner, on a rotating starting material, in which the burner continuously ejects inert gas for at least a predetermined period immediately after the end of the deposition of the glass fine particles.

Fabrication method for porous glass base material for optical fiber

An optical fiber includes a core with radius r1, a first clad layer with outermost radius r2 adjacent to the core at radial position r1 and covering the outer periphery of the core, a second clad layer with outermost radius r3 adjacent to the first clad layer at radial position r2 and covering the outer periphery of the first clad layer, and a third clad layer adjacent to the second clad layer at radial position r3 and covering the outer periphery of the second clad layer. The refractive index of the first clad layer decreases continuously from the inside to the outside, reaching a maximum value at radial position r1 and a minimum value at radial position r2. The refractive index of the second clad layer increases continuously from the inside to the outside, reaching a minimum value at radial position r2 and a maximum value at radial position r3.

A method is provided for producing a glass fine particle deposit by a VAD method using a core deposition burner and a cladding deposition burner disposed adjacent to the core deposition burner. The cladding deposition burner including five cylindrical tubes having different outer diameters and concentrically superimposed on one another and a group of small-diameter nozzles arranged in a ring shape in a third region from the inner side. The method includes flowing, in the cladding deposition burner, a glass raw material gas and a combustion supporting gas in a first region from the inner side, air in a second region from the inner side, a combustible gas in the third region from the inner side, a combustion supporting gas in the group of small-diameter nozzles, an inert gas in a fourth region from the inner side, and a combustion supporting gas in a fifth region from the inner side, respectively.
