Disclosed herein is a sliding member having an alloy overlay layer that comes into sliding contact with a counterpart member thereof and has improved fatigue resistance. The sliding member comprises a base material layer and an alloy overlay layer formed on the base material layer, in which the alloy overlay layer has a soft metal phase made of tin and precipitated in a metallic matrix phase made of aluminum, and when an average aspect ratio of the soft metal phase is defined as A, and its standard deviation is defined as A&#x3c3;, A+A&#x3c3; is 3.0 or less. In this case, the soft metal phase has a shape close to a sphere without elongating in a certain direction.

Sliding member

Disclosed herein is a sliding member, such as a sliding bearing, including a resin overlay layer having improved conformability. The sliding member includes a bearing alloy layer and a resin overlay layer formed on the bearing alloy layer, wherein the resin overlay layer includes a solid lubricant phase, a binder resin phase, and a cushion phase, and an area ratio of the cushion phase is 0.5% or more but 5.0% or less.

A resin composition for use in a sliding member, which has higher seizing resistance while maintaining abrasion resistance. The sliding resin composition includes: a resin binder; a solid lubricant; and a protecting and reinforcing agent that is harder and brittler than the resin binder. As the protecting and reinforcing agent, aggregates of particles harder than the resin binder are used. The amount of the protecting and reinforcing agent contained is 1 vol. % or more but 20 vol. % or less of the entire sliding resin composition. The particles harder than the resin binder have an average particle diameter of 10 nm or more but 100 nm or less that is smaller than that of the solid lubricant.

Sliding resin composition, and sliding member

Disclosed herein is a sliding member that has a coating layer serving as a sliding surface thereof so that even when foreign matter enters between the coating layer and a partner member, smoothness between them is maintained to prevent the occurrence of seizing. When the coating layer has an elastic recovery ratio of less than 60%, foreign matter that has entered between the coating layer and the sliding surface of a partner member is efficiently embedded in the coating layer. When the coating layer is formed of a resin composition, the resin composition contains a binder resin, a solid lubricant, and metal particles having a Young's modulus of 10 GPa or more but 100 GPa or less.

A slide bearing for internal combustion engines includes a metal layer having an inner peripheral surface extending along at least a part of a cylindrical shape and a resin coating layer formed on the inner peripheral surface. The inner peripheral surface has annular or helical groove sections extending in a generally circumferential direction of a cylindrical shape such that the inner peripheral surface has protrusion sections, which are arranged adjacent to each other in an axial direction of the cylindrical shape and which extend in the generally circumferential direction. The resin coating layer matches the shapes of the groove sections and the protrusion sections. When t is average coating thickness of the resin coating layer at positions different from crests of the protrusion sections and Rpk is reduced peak height of the resin coating layer, t and Rpk satisfy the following relations: 1.0 &#x3bc;m&#x2266;t&#x2266;5.0 &#x3bc;m; and 0.06&#x2266;Rpk/t&#x2266;5.04.
