An ECU includes a running mode control unit, a Wout control unit, and an engine start/stop determination unit. The running mode control unit controls switching of a running mode including a CD mode in which an engine is stopped and running using a motor generator alone is given priority, and a CS mode in which the engine is operated and the SOC of a power storage device is maintained at a predetermined target. The engine start/stop determination unit carries out a start determination of the engine based on a discharge allowable power indicating electric power that can be discharged by the power storage device. The Wout control unit modifies the discharge allowable power based on the running mode and operation/stop of the engine.

When a catalyst temperature is lower than a predetermined temperature on a second or subsequent start of an engine since system activation of a vehicle, a catalyst warm-up request is output for the purpose of warming up a catalyst in a catalytic converter. An output limit Wout of a battery is not increased in response to a second or subsequent output of the catalyst warm-up request, while being increased in response to a first output of the catalyst warm-up request. Accordingly, the catalyst warm-up in response to the second or subsequent output of the catalyst warm-up request since the system activation suppresses excessive output of electric power from the battery and thereby suppresses deterioration of the battery. Catalyst warm-up is performed in response to the second or subsequent output of the catalyst warm-up request. This suppresses deterioration of emission. As a result, this configuration satisfies both (balances) suppression of deterioration of the battery and suppression of deterioration of emission.

Hybrid vehicle

A vehicle includes an engine, a motor, a rotary electric machine, a battery, and an ECU. The ECU is configured to control the rotary electric machine to generate electric power when the engine is started during the motor traveling mode and provide a cranking torque to the engine, the electric power generated by the rotary electric machine increasing as a vehicle speed increases, and determine whether or not to start the engine based on a comparison between a sum of electric power and a value corresponding to electric power acceptable by the battery. The sum of electric power is a sum of first electric power actually input into and output from the battery during the motor traveling mode and second electric power predicted to be generated by the rotary electric machine while the cranking torque is provided to the engine.

Vehicle

A hybrid vehicle includes an input device that is used by a user to request an increase in the amount of charge of the power storage device. When a request for increasing the amount of charge is made using the input device, a control device controls charging of a power storage device by a generating device so that charging of the power storage device is promoted, warms a catalyst device by operating an internal combustion engine while limiting the output of the internal combustion engine, and when the warming of the catalyst device and the request for increasing the amount of charge that is made using the input device overlap each other, the control device eases the output limitation of the internal combustion engine.

An ECU determines whether or not first operation for limiting an upper limit value of discharge power of a power storage device for supplying electric power to a rotating electric machine for generating a driving force of a vehicle has been received, by setting a first threshold value of an operation duration of an operation device required to determine the reception of the first operation to be greater than a second threshold value of operation duration of the operation device required to determine the reception of second operation for canceling the limitation of the upper limit value.

An ECU may make a changeover between EV running and HV running in accordance with a running situation in each of a CD mode and a CS mode. A start power threshold of an engine at the time when the CD mode is selected may be larger than the start power threshold at the time when the CS mode is selected. Then, the ECU may change the driving force characteristics of a vehicle depending on whether the CD mode or the CS mode is selected that may result in the vehicle driving torque for the same vehicle speed and the same accelerator opening degree being larger when the CD mode is selected than when the CS mode is selected.

In the present specification, degradation of a battery is suppressed in a hybrid vehicle having an EV mode in which the hybrid vehicle runs without using an engine and an HV mode in which the hybrid vehicle runs using both the engine and a motor. A controller of the hybrid vehicle is configured to limit a usage range of the battery in the EV mode with an execution request of the EV mode having been made by an information input from outside to the vehicle than in the EV mode with no execution request. The degradation of the battery is suppressed by limiting the usage range of the battery.

Vehicle includes an engine, a first rotating electric machine and a control device controlling the rotational speed of the first rotating electric machine such that the rotational speed of the engine matches a target rotational speed. The control device calculates a torque command value of the first rotating electric machine based on an upper limit value of electric power discharged from a power storage device supplying electric power to the first rotating electric machine. The control device calculates the torque command of the first rotating electric machine based on a further restricted value of the upper limit value when a torque restricting condition including simultaneous operation of an accelerator pedal and brake pedal is met.
