An information processing device includes: an ECU; a management ECU that provides the ECU with a virtual storage including a first storage area and a second storage area, one of which stores a first program to be executed by the ECU on start-up; an update controller that obtains, from an external device, a second program that is an update to the first program, and causes a remaining one of the first storage area and the second storage area to store the second program obtained; and a switching unit that switches a program to be executed by the ECU on start-up from the first program to the second program stored in the remaining one of the storage areas, after the second program is stored in the remaining one of the storage areas.

An information processing device includes a storage in which a first program is stored and an update controller that updates the first program to a second program by use of data obtained from an external device. For each of a plurality of first partial areas obtained by dividing a first storage area storing the first program, the update controller copies a first partial program that is a part of the first program and that is stored in the first storage area to a second storage area and then successively updates the first partial program to a second partial program that is a part of the second program by use of the data. The data is difference information indicating a difference between the first program and the second program. The second storage area has a storage capacity smaller than a storage capacity of the first storage area.

A recording and playback apparatus capable of recording a content downloaded from a server to a recording medium, and playing back the content, includes a recording unit configured to download the content with a playback time limit from the server and record the content to the recording medium, a playback unit configured to play back the content recorded in the recording medium, and a display data generating unit configured to generate data of a list image for displaying a list of information of each of part or all of contents recorded in the recording medium. The data of a list image is generated so that, before the playback unit plays back a content with a playback time limit, the list image includes information indicating an allowed playback period of the content, and, after the playback unit plays back the content, the list image includes information indicating the playback time limit of the content.

The authentication system includes a plurality of user terminals that are used by the same user, and a server capable of communicating with the plurality of user terminals. A user terminal transmits, to the server, an identification ID of the user terminal, a first code that is used in common in the plurality of user terminals, and a second code that was encrypted using the first code. The server is configured to decrypt the encrypted second code using the first code, and perform authentication of the user terminal using the identification ID and the decrypted second code. The server, upon receiving a second code that is not encrypted from one of the plurality of user terminals, transmits the second code that was encrypted using the first code to the one of the user terminals.
