According to one embodiment, a display device includes a display panel configured to hold a liquid crystal layer between a first substrate and a second substrate, a cover member positioned at a side of the second substrate of the display panel, a first optical element positioned at an outer surface side of the first substrate, and a second optical element positioned between the second substrate and the cover member, bonded to an inner surface of the cover member but not bonded to the second substrate.

Display device and manufacturing method of the same

An array substrate includes a gate line extending in a first direction, a source line extending in a second direction orthogonally crossing the first direction and an auxiliary capacitance line having a trunk portion extending in the first direction so as to cross the source line and a branch portion branched from the trunk portion and extending along the source line. A switching element includes a drain line arranged under the auxiliary capacitance line so as to face the trunk portion and the branch portion thereof. A pixel electrode includes a main pixel electrode extending substantially in parallel to the source line and a contact portion electrically connected with the drain line. A counter substrate includes a couple of main common electrodes extending substantially in parallel to the main pixel electrode on the both sides sandwiching the main pixel electrode.

Liquid crystal display device

According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal display device includes a first interlayer insulation film located above a first gate line and a second gate line, a first common electrode extending over the first interlayer insulation film, a second interlayer insulation film covering the first common electrode, and a first pixel electrode disposed on the second interlayer insulation film. The first common electrode extends, from a position opposed to the first pixel electrode, beyond the source line in the first direction and beyond the gate line in the second direction.

A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate including an insulative substrate and a color filter layer formed on that side of the insulative substrate, which is opposed to the first substrate, the color filter layer including a first color filter of red, a third color filter of blue which is spaced apart from the first color filter, a fifth color filter of red which is spaced apart from the third color filter, a second color filter which is located between the first color filter and the third color filter and has a color which is different from red and blue, and a fourth color filter which is located between the third color filter and the fifth color filter and has a color which is different from red and blue, and a liquid crystal layer.

In a method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display device, a process for forming a first substrate includes the steps; forming a first wiring electrically connected with a switching element and extending in a first direction, forming an insulating film covering the first wiring, painting an electrically conductive film including electrically conductive material on the insulating film, and forming a second wiring electrically connected with the switching element extending in a second direction orthogonally crossing the first direction, and a pixel electrode electrically connected with the switching element apart from the second wiring by patterning the electrically conductive film. A second substrate is formed by forming a main common electrode extending in the second direction. A liquid crystal display panel is manufactured by holding liquid crystal material between the first substrate and the second substrate while the main common electrode faces the second wiring.

Liquid crystal display device including first to third wirings and a pixel electrode, and method of manufacturing the same

A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate including gate lines and a storage capacitance line, a first source line and a second source line, a main pixel electrode which has a strip shape, a sub-pixel electrode which is continuous with the main pixel electrode and has a strip shape extending toward the first source line and the second source line, and a first alignment film, a second substrate including second main common electrodes extending on both sides of the main pixel electrode, second sub-common electrodes which are continuous with the second main common electrodes and extend on both sides of the sub-pixel electrode, and a second alignment film, and a liquid crystal layer held between the first substrate and the second substrate.

According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate including a plurality of first signal lines disposed with a first pitch along a second direction, a plurality of second signal lines disposed with a second pitch along a first direction, and a first electrode including an n-number of first main electrodes (n is an integer of 2 or more), a second substrate including a second electrode including a plurality of second main electrodes disposed with a third pitch along the first direction, wherein an n-number of times the third pitch is substantially equal to the second pitch, and any one of the second main electrodes is located above each of the second signal lines.

According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate including a transmissive pixel electrode disposed in a transmissive display area, and a reflective pixel electrode with a planar plate shape which is disposed in a reflective display area, a second substrate including a common electrode, a liquid crystal layer being configured to have a less thickness in the reflective display area than in the transmissive display area, to impart a phase difference of &#xbc; wavelength to light passing at an OFF time in the reflective display area, and to impart no phase difference to light passing at an ON time in the reflective display area, and a retardation plate disposed between a second polarizer and the second substrate in the reflective display area.

According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate including an interlayer insulation film covering a first wiring line, a second wiring line and a third wiring line on the interlayer insulation film, and a first electrode which is located between the second wiring line and the third wiring line on the interlayer insulation film, is spaced apart from the second wiring line and the third wiring line, a second substrate including a second electrode which is opposed to each of the second wiring line and the third wiring line, and a liquid crystal layer between the first substrate and the second substrate.

According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal display device includes, a first substrate including a switching element which is electrically connected to a gate line and a source line and includes a drain electrode opposed to a storage capacitance line, a pixel electrode which includes a main pixel electrode extending in a second direction and a sub-pixel electrode which extends in a first direction at a position inside a position above an edge of the drain electrode and is put in contact with the drain electrode, a second substrate including a common electrode, and a liquid crystal layer.

Liquid crystal display device with a lateral electric field

According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal display includes a first substrate including main pixel electrodes, a second substrate including main common electrodes extending substantially in parallel to the main pixel electrodes and arranged on both sides of each of the main pixel electrodes as seen from above, and a liquid crystal layer including liquid crystal molecules held between the first substrate and the second substrate. A horizontal inter-electrode distance in a first direction between the main pixel electrode and the main common electrode is in a range of 11 &#x3bc;m or more and 13 &#x3bc;m or less, and a dielectric constant anisotropy of the liquid crystal layer is 10 or more and 16 or less.

In one embodiment, a first substrate includes a gate line, a source line, a switching element electrically connected with the gate line and the source line, and a pixel electrode including a sub-pixel electrode electrically connected with the switching element in the shape of a belt, and a main pixel electrode electrically connected with the sub-pixel electrode. A first alignment film covers the pixel electrode. A second substrate includes a common electrode having a pair of main common electrodes arranged on both sides sandwiching the main pixel electrode. A second alignment film covers the common electrode. A liquid crystal layer including liquid crystal molecules is held between the first substrate and the second substrate. Volume resistivity values of the first and second alignment films are lower than that of the liquid crystal layer.

In one embodiment, a first substrate includes a main pixel electrode and a first alignment film formed on the main pixel electrode having vertical alignment characteristics. A second substrate includes a pair of main common electrodes and a second alignment film formed on the main common electrodes having vertical alignment characteristics. A liquid crystal layer is held between the first substrate and the second substrate having positive dielectric anisotropy. The main pixel electrode is arranged extending in a first direction. The pair of main common electrodes is arranged in the first direction, respectively, so as to sandwich the main pixel electrode.
