An engine is provided with a timing chain cover that covers a side where a timing chain is arranged in a spaced apart manner from the side of the engine. An oil jet extending in an output shaft direction is a hollow member including therein an oil passage. One end portion of the oil jet in the output shaft direction is supported in a hole formed in the engine, and the other end portion of the oil jet extends toward the timing chain cover but does not come into contact with the timing chain cover. A pressing part arranged in a spaced apart manner from the timing chain cover in the output shaft direction is located between the other end portion and the timing chain cover in the output shaft direction, and the pressing part is in contact with the other end portion.

This application discloses a cylinder block structure including: a cylinder block surrounding a cylinder array formed by a plurality of cylinders lined up in a first direction; a reinforcement plate including: a first fastening portion fastened to the cylinder block; and a second fastening portion fastened to the cylinder block at a position separated from the first fastening portion in a second direction that intersects with the first direction; and an oil pump that supplies oil to the cylinder block. The oil pump is fastened to the cylinder block together with the reinforcement plate. The reinforcement plate is interposed between the cylinder block and the oil pump, and has a length that is equal to or more than half of the cylinder array in the first direction.

An oil supply apparatus includes: an oil pump; a main oil supply path; a sub oil supply path connected to the main oil supply path; a first oil supply section which is connected to the main oil supply path and which supplies oil to a crank bearing section of a specific crank journal; a second oil supply section which is connected to the sub oil supply path and which supplies oil to a crank bearing section of a crank journal other than the specific crank journal; and a control apparatus which sets, as a target oil pressure, a highest required oil pressure among required oil pressures required from a plurality of hydraulic operating sections in accordance with an operation state of the engine, and which controls the discharge amount of the oil pump so that an oil pressure detected by an oil pressure sensor equals the target oil pressure.

Methods and systems for controlling an internal combustion engine are provided. One example method may include closing an intake valve later during a cylinder cycle than a timing with which an amount of air inducted into a cylinder from an air intake passage would be maximized, and earlier during the cylinder cycle as a desired amount of air to be inducted into the cylinder increases, while an engine is operating at a given engine speed. The method may further include closing the intake valve earlier during a cylinder cycle as the engine speed increases when the desired amount of air to be inducted into the cylinder is at a maximum.

Method and system for controlling an internal combustion engine

A rocker cam is comprised of a first split body and a second split body, which are joined with a joint split face that contains an axial line of a cam shaft. The first split body has a first pin support portion that supports one end portion of the connection pin, and the second split body has a second pin support portion that is located so as to face the first pin support portion and supports the other end portion of the connection pin. The connection pin is supported at the first and second pin support portions at its both end portions. Accordingly, a separation force that acts on the first and second split bodies of the rocker cam during its repeated rocking movement can be reduced without improperly increasing its rigidity.

Adjustable valve drive device of engine

An engine front structure, which is provided with a cover body () of the timing cover () which covers the camshaft driving force transmission mechanism at a position opposed to a front surface of the cylinder head. An upper extension portion () of the timing cover () extends upwardly from an upper portion of the cover body () and has an inner surface formed with a depression () receiving therein the variable camshaft timing mechanism (). A fastening seat () on the cover body () with a relatively high stiffness is located beneath of the upper extension portion () and centrally in a width direction of the engine and is fastened to the engine body. An engine-mounting-bracket receiving seat () is formed on a top surface of the upper extension portion () to have a relatively high stiffness and attached to an engine mounting bracket. A connection portion () is provided on a central region of the inner surface of the upper extension portion () in the width direction of the engine to extend along the depression () and connect between the fastening seat () and the engine-mounting-bracket receiving seat () with a relatively high stiffness.

A valve driving device including a tappet assembly adapted to slide in a tappet guide hole to drive a valve and including a high-speed center tappet and low-speed side tappet; and a high-speed center cam and a low-speed side cam provided corresponding to the center tappet and the side tappet.
