A peripheral device is selectively connected to an information processing apparatus including a first operating system and an information processing apparatus including a second operating system whose execution file is incompatible with that of the first operating system. The storage unit of the peripheral device stores a control program to be executed by the information processing apparatus. The control program includes a first control program to be executed on the first operating system and a second control program to be executed on the second operating system. After the peripheral device transmits the control program to the information processing apparatus, the information processing apparatus writes instruction information in the storage unit of the peripheral device in accordance with the control program. The peripheral device operates based on the instruction information.

Peripheral device used while being connected to information processing apparatus

The present invention is applicable to a peripheral device which performs processing based on information from an information processing device. The peripheral device of present invention is characterized by a storage unit, which stores in it a program of controlling of designated processing, and stores in it data for controlling the peripheral device, and by a communication unit which sends the program stored in the storage unit to the information processing device, and by a control unit which controls operation of the peripheral device based on an instruction information written into the storage unit upon execution of the program on the information processing device.

Peripheral device and image reading device

The storage unit of a peripheral device has a first storage area and a second storage area. The first storage area stores a plurality of control programs corresponding to a plurality of operating systems of different types. The second storage area is a storage area which is recognized by an information processing apparatus as an external storage device and in which at least one control program is replicated from the first storage area. The information processing apparatus reads out the control program from the second storage recognized by it as the external storage device, and executes the program. The information processing apparatus thus controls the peripheral device.

The image data recording apparatus includes an image data input device, a first write-in device, a second write-in device, and a controller for controlling write-in action to the first and second write-in devices, wherein the controller controls the second write-in device so that when the image data inputted by the image data input device is to be written into the first memory medium inserted into the first write-in device, the inputted image data may be precedingly written into the second memory medium, and controls the first write-in device so that during the ejection of the inserted first memory medium, the image data written into the second memory medium may be written into the first memory medium and also, the control information of the image data may be written into the first memory medium.

A network scanning system has a control apparatus connected to a connection device via a network and includes a scanning application for remotely controlling a scanner, where the scanning application receives a command from the connection device and automatically transmits to a display unit of the connection device via the network without a user operation of the scanning application, a selection screen information, the connection device displays a selection menu and transmits, to the scanning application in the control apparatus, a selection item information specifying an item selected by a user of the display unit, and the scanning application automatically transmits, to the connection device without a user operation of the scanning application in the control apparatus, a control signal based on the selection item, and the scanning application in the control apparatus automatically controls the scanner remotely in accordance with the control signal via the network.

Network scanning system

An image scanner device connected to a general information processing apparatus can be used on a network at a low cost, and further, the firmware of hardware for this purpose can be a maintenance-free firmware, thus user's convenience can be improved. A scanner/network connection apparatusto connect a scannerto a networkhas an LCD server to drive a LCD as a display unit, a touch panel task to transmit a touch position on a touch panel, and a SCSI server to connect the scannerto the network. A PCto control the scanner has a virtual LCD driver, a virtual touch panel driver, and a virtual SCSI driver, operating to provide an environment as if the LCD, the touch panel and the image scanner of the scanner/network connection apparatusare connected to the PC. The virtual LCD driver draws a screen image as a user interface for various operations, and the result of drawing is displayed on the LCD of the scanner/network connection apparatus. Thus an interactive operation environment can be provided to the user.

An image reading apparatus capable of continually conveying a plurality of originals in a stable manner while cleaning a contact glass of an image sensor and reducing streaks occurring in read images. An image sensor reads an original image via a contact member which the conveyed original may contact. A cleaning member, being provided on a turning member which is able to rotate or swing and disposed at a position opposing the image sensor, cleans the contact member's surface which the original may contact. The turning member is turned by a driving unit. A controlling unit controls the driving unit to turn the turning member so that cleaning of the contact member is performed by the cleaning member after the original has passed an image reading position of the image sensor and before a subsequent original reaches the image reading position.

Image reading apparatus and control method thereof

There is disclosed an image searching apparatus capable of searching an image stored in a memory medium, corresponding to a search image, selected from the plural search images registered in advance. The apparatus can generate a synthesized image, including the registered search images, together with marking areas, to be marked by the operator for selecting the search image, and prints the synthesized as a marking sheet which is to be marked by the operator and then read by the apparatus again, whereby the apparatus effects the image search, based on the marking provided on the marking sheet.

Image searching apparatus

In an image compressing apparatus of this invention, a table of extended MH codes is prepared with respect to combinations of consecutive black/white pixels. When a portion where frequent changes between black and white occur is to be coded, consecutive black/white pixels are coded at once without measuring the run lengths of pixels. These extended MH codes are obtained by combining MH codes corresponding to black and white runs whose run lengths are determined in one byte of an original image.

Image compressing apparatus

An image recording apparatus for making index data from a part of image information read out of a recording medium. This apparatus comprises a memory for storing information regarding a character recognition error, a searching unit for searching the image information corresponding to search data, and a changing unit for changing a part of the search data on the basis of the information stored in the memory when the image information cannot be searched by the searching unit. Preferably, the change in search data by the changing unit is stopped by a predetermined instruction or when the number of changing operations has reached a predetermined number of changing times. Or, preferably, the search data can be rewritten to the index data by a predetermined instruction. If corresponding image information doesn't exist in the input search data, a part of the search data is changed in accordance with a character recognition error ratio which has previously been obtained, so that the image information can be searched even if there is a recognition error in the index data.

An image recording apparatus for recording the images of originals on a recording medium is provided with a reading device for reading information for discriminating between originals, a recording device for recording the images of the originals on the recording medium, a conveying device for conveying the orginals to the reading means and the recording means, a detector for detecting the state of conveyance of the originals conveyed by the conveying means, a data preparing device for preparing index data on the basis of the information read by the reading means, and a controller for controlling the preparation of the data by the data preparing means in conformity with the state of conveyance of the originals detected .by the detector.
