Microwave irradiatoris attached to a furnace main body of a heating furnacehaving microwave permeability. A running passage for passing a fiber member F which is the object to be heated is formed inside the heating furnace. A first tubular membermade of a first microwave heat-generating material absorbing microwave energy and generating heat is rotatably disposed around the running passage. A second tubular member made of a second microwave heat-generating material absorbing microwave energy and generating heat is disposed in the first tubular member. The fiber member F is heated and calcined while running the fiber member F containing carbon in the running passage of the second tubular member

Microwave heating apparatus

A fiber spreading apparatus prevents a fiber bundle from being split apart. Position restriction rollersandare arranged in a fiber bundle streaming and feeding sectionso as to restrict a streaming and feeding position of the fiber bundle. A spread width of the fiber bundleis thereby restricted and the fiber bundle is prevented from being split apart. A squeezing roller mechanism, which is arranged outside of a liquid stored in a fiber spreading tank, guides the fiber bundlefrom within the liquid in the fiber spreading tankto the squeezing roller mechanismwhile bringing the fiber bundle into constant contact with a first guide. By so configuring, a surface tension of the liquid acts to prevent the fiber bundlefrom being split apart.

Fiber spreading apparatus

A method of manufacturing a material for a magnesium alloy member, characterized in that the method comprises the steps of: heating a solid-liquid coexistent magnesium alloy up to a temperature in the range of from the solidus temperature or more to the liquidus temperature thereof or less; homogeneously dispersing carbon fibers into the solid-liquid coexistent magnesium alloy, wherein the carbon fibers have been cut into arbitrary lengths or powdered and have not been subjected to surface treatment; and then cooling the magnesium alloy.
