A charger includes: a charging circuit which receives an electric power from external equipment and charges a secondary battery; a control device which determines a power supply capability of the external equipment on the basis of the electric power that is supplied to the charging circuit from the external equipment; and a display device that displays the power supply capability of the external equipment, which has been determined by the control device.

A charger of the present invention includes a charging circuit that allows a secondary battery to be charged, a state-of-charge detection circuit that detects a state of charge of the secondary battery, a pictogram display unit that displays the state of charge of the secondary battery, and a control device that controls the charging circuit and the pictogram display unit on the basis of the state of charge of the secondary battery. The control device determines a kind of electronic apparatus available by the secondary battery in accordance with the state of charge of the secondary battery, and then displays the kind of electronic apparatus available on the pictogram display unit.

There is provided a battery separator comprising synthetic resin fibers, wherein hydrophilization treatment, preferably plasma treatment is applied, and a contact angle to pure water indicates a value of 0 to 100 degrees; an alkali secondary battery in which a electrode group having the separator between a positive electrode and a negative electrode is sealed in a battery case together with an alkali electrolyte, in particular, a nickel-metal hydride secondary battery whose positive electrode is a nickel electrode and whose negative electrode is a hydrogen absorbing alloy electrode, wherein active substances of said nickel electrode comprising powders consisting essentially of nickel hydroxides and higher-order cobalt hydroxides formed a surface of a part or whole thereof are employed, thereby providing its superiority in both of self-discharge properties and charge and discharge cycle life performance.

Battery separator and manufacturing method thereof, and alkali secondary battery having the separator incorporated therein

A nickel-hydrogen secondary battery is disclosed wherein a long life is assured, an improved self-discharging property in a high temperature storage and the inhibition of increase in inner pressure of the battery in the occasion of over-charging can be realized. The nickel-hydrogen secondary battery comprises, a case, a paste-type positive electrode accommodated in the case and containing nickel hydroxide and a polymeric binder, a paste-type negative electrode accommodated in the case and containing a hydrogen-absorbing alloy and a polymeric binder, a separator accommodated in the case in so as to be interposed between the positive and negative electrodes, and an alkali electrolyte accommodated in the case. The separator is formed of a sheet material containing polyolefin-based synthetic resin fibers and has a hydrophilic first surface and a second surface having hydrophilic and hydrophobic portions, the separator is interposed between the positive and negative electrodes with the second surface facing toward the negative electrode.

Nickel-hydrogen secondary battery

There is provided a paste-type electrode for an alkali secondary cell which can suppress occurrence of internal short-circuiting, which is likely to happen when an electrode is rolled along with another electrode having the opposite polarity and a separator interposed therebetween. The paste-type electrode for an alkali secondary cell comprises a three-dimensional substrate including a felt-like metal porous member in which a plurality of hollow metal fibers are arranged three-dimensionally, diameters of those of the metal fibers arranged near the surface portion of the porous member being greater than those arranged in the inner portion, an average diameter of those of the metal fibers near the surface portion being in a range of 20 to 150 .mu.m, and an average diameter of those of the metal fibers in the inner portion being in a range of 10 to 100 .mu.m, and paste containing an activation substance filled in the three-dimensional substrate.

Disclosed in a thin type electronic instrument having a structure comprising a circuit base plate for mounting an integrated circuit chip thereon and a power source battery for supplying power to the circuit base plate sandwiched between a pair of synthetic resin sheets opposed to each other, with the pair of synthetic resin sheets being plastered at the peripheral portions thereof, characterized in that a substrate made of a metal is interposed between the pair of synthetic resin sheet. The thin type electronic instrument of the present invention is improved in mechanical durability against mechanical shock such as warping or torsion by a stress during carrying or usage, whereby erroneous actuation or breaking can be inhibited.
