A display device includes a display region, a peripheral region around the display region, a substrate having flexibility, a terminal group in the peripheral region, a plurality of connection wirings connected to the terminal group, extending from the terminal group in a first direction and arranged in a second direction intersecting the first direction, an inorganic insulating film in the peripheral region, and an organic insulating film in the peripheral region. The peripheral region has a peripheral region (first peripheral region) curved in a thickness direction of the substrate. The first peripheral region includes a region (first region) that overlaps each of the plurality of connection wirings and a region (second region) that does not overlap the plurality of connection wirings. The first region and the second region are arranged in the second direction. The inorganic insulating film and the organic insulating film are present in the first region, and the inorganic insulating film is not present and the organic insulating film is present in the second region.

Display device

According to one embodiment, a display device includes an insulating substrate, a wavelength conversion element, a light propagation layer including a light-path portion formed between the insulating substrate and the wavelength conversion element, wherein an area of a surface on the insulating substrate side is greater than an area of a surface on the wavelength conversion element side, and a non-light-path portion formed of a material having a refractive index less than the light-path portion, the light-path portion being sandwiched between the non-light-path portions, and a reflective film formed between the non-light-path portion and the wavelength conversion element.

According to one embodiment, a wavelength converter includes a microlens which condenses excitation light, a reflective layer which is opposed to the microlens and includes an aperture, and a wavelength conversion element which is opposed to the microlens via the reflective layer, absorbs the excitation light, and emits emission light whose wavelength is different from that of the excitation light.

According to one embodiment, a display device includes a first insulating substrate, a second insulating substrate, a first pixel electrode and a second pixel electrode, a wavelength conversion element to convert light of a first wavelength polarized in a first polarization direction into light of a second wavelength polarized in a second polarization direction, and a liquid crystal layer having a first thickness in an area opposed to the first pixel electrode, and having a second thickness greater than the first thickness in an area opposed to the second pixel electrode.

A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal display panel and a backlight. The backlight includes a light guide plate, an LED, and a wavelength converter between the light guide plate and the LED. The wavelength converter includes semiconductor quantum dots in a supporter, to which a reflection film is applied except surfaces that face the LED and the light guide plate.

According to one embodiment, an illumination device including a light source unit including a light-emitting element having a light-emitting surface, a reflective surface formed around the light-emitting surface and having higher optical reflectivity than the light-emitting surface, a wavelength conversion member which converts a wavelength of emitted light from the light-emitting surface, an optical member located between the light source unit and the wavelength conversion member and including a light path adjustment mechanism which guides, to the reflective surface, light returned from the wavelength conversion member to the light-emitting surface, and a lightguide opposed to the wavelength conversion member.

Recently, with an increasing demand for narrowing a frame, the seal line width is inclined to get finer, which deteriorates the seal adhesive strength. One or a plurality of grooves are formed in a resin layer that is a foundation of a seal area. A direction of forming a groove (lateral surface) is preferably in a vertical direction to the external stress. In a seal straight portion, a groove is preferably formed not only in a parallel direction to the seal but also in the vertical direction. In a seal corner portion, a groove is preferably formed in a shape curved convexly toward a direction of a display area (active area).

In the case of a pixel including four and more sub pixels, the area of one pixel is larger than that in the case of a pixel including three sub pixels; therefore, high definition becomes difficult. When a central display area has a structure of four and more sub pixels, in a display device, the pixel structure in a peripheral display area for use in creating a virtual image is reduced to three sub pixels, to allocate the vacant space for high density assignment. Only the pixel density in the vicinity of a frame of a lens portion is compressed, in order to apparently resolve the discord with the image of a non-lens portion. The pixel side in the peripheral display area may be even or gradually narrowed.

A display device is provided that inhibits color mixture between adjacent subpixels and allows for obtaining a high-quality image. The display device includes a display area on which a light-blocking metal layer, a black matrix, and a plurality of subpixels are arranged, wherein the plurality of subpixels are arranged adjacent to one another via a black matrix as seen vertically from above, the black matrix and the light-blocking metal layer are arranged to overlap each other as seen vertically from above, and the light-blocking metal layeris arranged on the bank of an organic flattened film.

In one embodiment, the liquid crystal shutter is equipped with a first liquid crystal panel in the OCB mode to control the transmissivity of the light entering into left eye and a second liquid crystal panel in the OCB mode to control the transmissivity of the light entering into right eye, and a drive portion to control the transmissivity. The drive portion applies a normal voltage of a normal drive in a pulse shape and a retention voltage having a pulse shape with lower frequency than the normal voltage or lower voltage than normal voltage to the first liquid crystal panel and the second liquid crystal panel. The drive portion switches between the normal drive and the retention drive while maintaining bend alignment state.
