A magnetic recording medium is disclosed comprising a substrate coated with a mixture which consists essentially of (1) hexagonal plate-like shaped, ferrite magnetic powder particles having an average particle diameter of 0.2 .mu.m or less and (2) a binder resin having an active hydrogen equivalent of 2000 or more. This magnetic recording medium displays no flocculation of the hexagonal system ferrite magnetic powder, and has excellent dispersion properties and perpendicular orientation ability. Further, smoothness on the coating film is good, and S/N properties are noticeably improved.

To manufacture a perpendicular magnetic recording medium, a nonmagnetic substrate having a coating layer of a binder with magnetic particles dispersed therein is passed through a magnetic field in a direction substantially perpendicular thereto, and a perpendicular orientation of the magnetic particles is performed as the substrate passes through an upstream region of the magnetic field. A viscosity of the coating layer is increased in a downstream region of the magnetic field, thereby restricting further movement of the magnetic particles in the coating layer before the nonmagnetic substrate is removed from the magnetic field.

Method and apparatus for perpendicular magnetic recording medium

An electrochromic display device comprising two electrode substrates, at least one of which is transparent is prepared by applying a solution containing one or more transition metal compounds under an inert atmosphere to the surface of at least one of said electrode substrates. Then, the solution is dried so as to form an electrochromic layer on the surface of the electrode substrate. The drying is carried out by using a temperature ranging between room temperature and 120.degree. C. Finally, the two electrode substrates are fixed in a manner to face each other with an ionic conductor layer or electrolyte layer disposed therebetween to obtain the electrochromic display device.
