According to an X-ray CT apparatus and a scanning method of the present invention, in order to efficiently create an image used for diagnosis, an operator selects a desired part from a part selection GUI before main scanning by using an ROI object imitating a shape of each part, held in a storage device, and thus the ROI object can be disposed on a scanogram image, in which setting information corresponding to a part is set for the ROI object in advance, a region of interest associated with the part is set, main scanning is performed under conditions associated with the set region of interest, and an image is reconstructed on the basis of X-ray information obtained through the main scanning.

Reference part selection objects indicating the position and direction of the reference part of an object are displayed at a plurality of positions together with a body position setting imageA showing the positional relationship between a scanning unitand the object. Then, when a reference part selection object at an arbitrary position is selected, a body position corresponding to the selected object is set as a scanning condition. To retrieve a desired image from plural types of successive images arranged based on various physical quantities, a cuboid object that is an assembly of multiple unit cells is displayed on a display device, a successive image group is arranged according to the physical quantities of the three axes of the cuboid object that are respectively the body-axis direction position, the first time phase intervals, and the second time phase intervals narrower than the first time phase intervals, and the respective images included in the successive image group and the respective unit cells are associated on one-to-one basis and stored in a main memory. When a three-dimensional position in the cuboid object is input by a mouse operation etc., the CPU retrieves one or multiple images associated with one or multiple unit cells determined according to the input three-dimensional position from the main memory and displays the images in an image display region.
