Provided is an illumination device that makes it possible to enhance utilization efficiency of light, and a display device that includes the illumination device. The illumination device includes: a light source that is configured to generate light of a first wavelength; a luminescent body that is configured to wavelength-convert the light of the first wavelength to light of a second wavelength, the second wavelength being different from the first wavelength; and a wavelength selective filter that is provided on a light-incident side of the luminescent body, the wavelength selective filter being configured to transmit the light of the first wavelength and to reflect the light of the second wavelength.

Illumination device and display device

The present invention provides a projection display capable of realizing high contrast in a display image plane. The projection display includes a light source; a first light modulator modulating light from the light source on the basis of an input image signal, and generating a first image light; a second light modulator modulating the first image light on the basis of the image signal, and generating a second image light; and a projection lens projecting the second image light generated with the second light modulator.

A reflection type projector apparatus uses polarized beam filters that are resistant to fluctuations in incident angle as the light beam splitting elements and in which are provided for the blue color beam a blue color use liquid crystal reflection panel, a polarized beam filter, a linear polarization plate, and a &#xbd; wavelength plate arranged at one side face of a cross prism, with a blue color beam emitted toward the blue color use liquid crystal reflection panel. The blue color beam passes through the polarized beam filter, striking the blue color use liquid crystal reflection panel, and is modulated when reflected. The blue color modulated beam is reflected toward the cross prism at the polarized beam filter, and then passes through the linear polarization plate and the &#xbd; wavelength plate, strikes the cross prism, and is projected to the screen by a projection lens.

Image projection apparatus

An image projection apparatus having an adjuster mechanism with a projecting member projecting from a bottom surface of the case to adjust the elevation angle of a projection lens and an opening/closing member located at a front surface of said projection lens for opening or closing the projection opening. The adjuster mechanism uses an electric motor to move the projecting member up and down. The opening/closing member is opened/closed using a linkage mechanism linked to the adjuster mechanism.

A projector for projecting an image to an external screen in which an optical unit, includes rectangular liquid crystal panels disposed such that the short sides thereof are substantially parallel with a plane including principal light beams of the respective color light beams to be composited by a prism. Transmission cables are drawn out from the short sides of the respective liquid crystal panels, and a cooling fan is disposed such that the direction of cooling air is approximately parallel with the long sides of the liquid crystal panels.
