To provide a sheet conveying technique that can realize highly accurate skew correction with an inexpensive and simple apparatus configuration. A sheet conveying apparatus includes: first and second rollers that are arranged in positions different from each other in a direction orthogonal to a sheet conveying direction and can be driven to rotate independently from each other; a first skew detecting unit that is arranged on an upstream side or a downstream side of the first and second rollers in the sheet conveying direction and detects skew of a sheet at first skew detection accuracy; and a second skew detecting unit that is arranged further on the downstream side than the first skew detecting unit in the sheet conveying direction and detects skew of the sheet at second skew detection accuracy higher than the first skew detection accuracy. A skew amount of the sheet is determined on the basis of detection results of the respective first and second skew detecting units. To reduce the determined skew amount, the first and second rollers are driven to rotate independently from each other and convey the sheet.

Sheet conveying apparatus and sheet conveying method

A technique is provided that can realize highly accurate skew correction without employing any particularly complicated device configuration. The quantity of skew of a sheet is determined in accordance with a detection result from a first pair of sensors. Driving of each of first rollers and second rollers is separately controlled to carry the sheet in such a manner as to reduce the quantity of skew determined in accordance with the detection result from the first pair of sensors. The quantity of skew of the sheet is determined in accordance with a detection result from a second pair of sensors. Driving of each of the first rollers and the second rollers is separately controlled to carry the sheet in such a manner as to reduce the quantity of skew determined in accordance with the detection result from the second pair of sensors.

A low-cost sheet thickness detection device has high sheet follow-up capability, has no influence on the conveyance of a sheet of paper, receives no influence of vibration and the like when mounted in a central position of the sheet in the width direction thereof, and allows complicated operations to be avoided when the conveying path is to be opened, and provides a sheet conveying device and an image forming apparatus. The sheet thickness detection device is provided in a sheet conveying path formed by a pair of conveyance guides opposite to each other to detect the thickness of a sheet conveyed in the sheet conveying path. There is provided a lubricant which is produced by dissolving a sorbitan ester compound in a solvent such as hexane or toluene. In the sorbitan ester compound, at least one of hydroxyl groups of 1,5-sorbitan is linked by ester linkage to a perfluoro polyether having a terminal carboxyl group and at least an other hydroxyl group is linked by ester linkage to a hydrocarbon having a terminal carboxyl group. There is also provided a thin magnetic metal film type magnetic recording medium or a coated magnetic recording medium in which the above lubricant is held on the surface of a magnetic layer. The lubricant exhibits superior lubricating effects under all conditions and is capable of maintaining the lubricating effects for prolonged time. Consequently, the magnetic recording medium which has the lubricant held on the magnetic layer exhibits superior running durability and resistance against abrasion.

The derivative is especially useful as a lubricant for magnetic recording mediums of the coating and metal thin film types.
