The present invention provides a maintenance apparatus for increasing the service life of a medical handpiece. The maintenance apparatus is provided with a first fluid supply which feeds a maintenance fluid to the bearings of a handpiece, capable of rotatably supporting a rotary tool, and a second fluid supply which feeds the maintenance fluid to the chucking structure of the handpiece, capable of detachably holding the rotary tool.

A dental cutting device has a head portion () which accommodates a rotary cylinder () for holding a cutting tool (), and a turbine blade () mounted around and secured on the rotary cylinder (). Air fed from an air-supply port () is blown onto the turbine blade to rotate the same, and the air blown onto the turbine blade is exhausted from the exhaust port (). The head portion has a first chamber () which is located at a portion confronting the outer peripheral end portion of the turbine blade and which extends in a direction orthogonal to the central axis of the rotary cylinder, and second chambers () which are located adjacent to one or both ends of the turbine blade along the direction of the central axial and which communicate with the first chamber.

Air-driven cutting device for medical treatment

A air-driven cutting device for medical treatment (a handpiece ()) comprises a housing () for a head portion (). The housing () accommodates a rotary cylinder () for holding a cylindrical cutting tool () inserted through the tool inlet () of the housing, and a turbine blade () mounted around and secured on the rotary cylinder. With this arrangement, a compressed air is blown onto the turbine blade to rotate the turbine blade, the rotor and the cutting tool. Particularly, a part or a whole of the end portion of the rotary cylinder in the vicinity of the tool inlet is covered with the cover section () of the housing. Therefore, the rotary cylinder does not contact the teeth or the tissues of the buccal cavity.

The periodontal pocket measurement apparatus of the present invention comprises a main handpiece unit provided with a cover member for covering the front end portion thereof, an operation member mounted at the front end of the cover member and being slidable in the longitudinal direction of the cover member, a flexible sleeve attached to the operation member and projecting from the front end of the cover member, and a probe attached to the cover member, passing through the sleeve and being exposable at its tip from the tip of the sleeve, being characterized in that the main handpiece unit is provided with energizing means for pushing a movable portion including the operation member and the sleeve toward the front end. With this structure, operation can be made easily when measuring the depth of a periodontal pocket of a patient by detecting the positional difference between the tip of the probe and the tip of the sleeve when the tip of the probe is inserted into the bottom portion of the periodontal pocket and the tip of the sleeve is made contact with the upper fringe of the gingiva.

An air turbine handpiece comprises a grip portion and a head portion disposed at a tip of the grip portion. In the handpiece, a rotor is disposed in a chamber in the head portion, and a cutting tool is detachably attached to a rotation shaft which is rotated integrally with the rotor. A nozzle opening for injecting air toward a turbine blade portion and an exhaust opening for exhausting the injected air to the outside are opened to the chamber of the head portion. An arc width of the nozzle opening in a circumferential direction is two or more times a height in a direction of a rotation axis of the rotor. The nozzle opening is formed so as to extend in a width direction.
