An anion exchanger consisting essentially of an aromatic polysulfone block copolymer of the formula: ##STR1## wherein Ar is ##STR2## or ##STR3## X is --SO.sub.2 --, ##STR4## --S-- or --O--, Y is --SO.sub.2 --, --S-- or --O--, Z is a single bond, --O--, --S--, --SO.sub.2 --, ##STR5## each of R.sub.1 to R.sub.9 which may be the same or different is a hydrocarbon group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, each of a to d is an integer of from 0 to 4, e is an integer of from 0 to 3, (f+g) is from 0 to 7, (h+i) is from 0 to 5, each of R.sub.10 and R.sub.11 is a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and each of m and n is an integer of from 2 to 200, provided m/n=100/1-1/10, and having anion exchange groups introduced to the aromatic rings of the copolymer.

A vapor permselective membrane consisting essentially of an ion exchange membrane made of a fluorine-containing polymer having a fixed ion concentration of from 1 to 6N, a water content of from 20 to 250% by weight and an ion exchange capacity of from 0.6 to 2.5 meq/g dry resin, the ion exchange membrane having a thickness of from 0.1 to 300 .mu.m and a moisture content of from 1 to 10% by weight, the permselective membrane having a water vapor permeation rate of at least 50 m.sup.3 /m.sup.2.atm.

A multi-layered diaphragm for electrolysis, which comprises a porous layer of a fluorine-containing polymer having a pore diameter of from 0.05 to 10 .mu.m, a porosity of from 30 to 95% and a thickness of from 30 to 450 .mu.m and with its interior and anode-side surface being hydrophilic, and an ion exchange resin layer supported on the cathode side thereof and having a thickness thinner than the porous layer but of at least 5 .mu.m and an ion exchange capacity of from 0.5 to 2.0 meq/g dry resin, the total thickness being from 35 to 500 .mu.m.
