A pH sensor includes a glass electrode unit to respond to pH; a comparative electrode unit to be measured for its potential relative to the glass electrode unit; a main pipe to convey test liquid; and a fluid inlet connected to the glass electrode unit and the main pipe. The glass electrode unit includes: a first storage unit filled with electrolyte solution; a first electrode to electrically connect the inside and outside of the first storage unit; a glass film disposed between the first storage unit and the main pipe; and a first pressure transmission unit connected to the fluid inlet. The first pressure transmission unit regulates the internal pressure of the first storage unit to control the pressure difference between the first storage unit and the main pipe separated by the glass film. The comparative electrode unit includes: a second storage unit filled with buffer solution; a second electrode to electrically connect the inside and outside of the second storage unit; a liquid junction unit disposed between the second storage unit and the main pipe; and a second pressure transmission unit connected to the fluid inlet. The second pressure transmission unit regulates the internal pressure of the second storage unit to control the pressure difference between the second storage unit and the main pipe separated by the liquid junction unit.

An electrochemical device for moving particles covered with a protein is provided. The device includes at least two electrodes that are in contact with a liquid containing the protein-covered particles and a circuit that generates a potential difference in a range that does not cause electrolysis of the liquid between the electrodes. The particles are moved by electrophoresis in the direction of the arrangement of the electrodes. An object of the invention is to make an exact judgment on suitability of a replaceable component such as a toner supplying container with use of an existing mechanism of an image forming apparatus, without additionally providing a data storage component designed for a consumable product which is detachably attached to the apparatus, or a data reading component to be placed in the image forming apparatus main body. The image forming portion of this image forming apparatus includes a LSU, a photosensitive drum, a developing unit holder, a multiple number of developing units, an intermediate transfer element, a transfer element and a fixing unit. All the developing units are of an identical configuration. Therefore, for replacement of developing units, the operator may and should remove any color of developing unit in the same fashion and attach a fresh developing unit of the color in the same fashion. The image forming portion sets up the image forming conditions for individual colors in the developing order.

A sanitary cleaning apparatus includes a plurality of cleaning water jetting openings on a nozzle, and the axes of those jetting openings intersect with each other between a jetting surface of the nozzles and a region to be cleaned. The sanitary cleaning apparatus provides various cleaning patterns by giving turbulence to the jetting flow, by mixing air in the water, and by changing distribution ratio of jetting flows from different jetting openings.

An object of the invention is to prevent a silicone gas generated in a fixing unit from entering into a charger. A corona wind rises when the charger corona-discharges, and air is taken in through an outside-air intake. The air flows in through the air passage and the air inlet and flows out through a front opening as an air flow. The silicone gas is isolated by the airflow and prevented from entering into the charger.

A charger charges a recording medium before irradiation of light to form an electrostatic latent image by irradiating light as an optical image onto a surface of the recording medium. The charger includes a discharging electrode having a plurality of projections for generating corona discharge to charge the recording medium surface, a conductive shield case having an opening face opposite to the recording medium and opposed to the discharging electrode, a holding member for holding the discharging electrode in the shield case in a state in which the discharging electrode is electrically insulated from the shield case, a conductive grid electrode electrically insulated and held between the discharging electrode and the recording medium, and a power supplying device for supplying a high voltage for discharge to the discharging electrode and setting a ratio of electric currents flowing through the grid electrode and the shield case such that these electric currents are approximately equal to each other. One form of the charger controllably moves the discharger electrode toward the recording medium for setting the value of the electric currents flowing through the grid electrode and the shield case until they are both equal to a predetermined reference value.
