There is provided an ink cartridge including a body, a particular interface and an engagement portion. The body has a front side at which an ink supply portion is located for supplying ink stored in an ink chamber to an exterior of the ink chamber, and a rear side located to face the front side. The particular interface is positioned substantially adjacent to the ink supply portion at the front side, wherein the particular interface is configured to be biased by a biasing member in a specific direction. The engagement portion is configured to be engaged with a locking section of a cartridge installation portion for retaining the body in an installed state.

The liquid container is inserted into and removed from the mounting portion via the opening. The mounting portion includes an urging member that urges the liquid container toward the opening, a retaining member that selectively retains the liquid container in the mounting portion, and a stopper having a bendably deformable resilient member that extends from one of the first and second surfaces in a direction opposite the insertion direction of the liquid container, and that contacts the contact portion of the liquid container in the mounting portion. A first force required for deforming the resilient member in the insertion direction is less than a second force required for deforming the resilient member in the removal direction.

The image recording apparatus includes a mounting portion configured to mount thereon an ink cartridge, a first detecting unit which detects an amount of ink in the ink cartridge mounted on the mounting portion, a storage unit which stores a detection result by the first detecting unit in a storage medium, a comparing unit which compares a first detection result stored in the storage medium before the image recording apparatus is restarted, with a second detection result obtained by the first detecting unit after the image recording apparatus is restarted, and a first output unit which outputs instruction information to re-mount the ink cartridge if the comparing unit determines that the first detection result is not same as the second detection result.

When a DNA ink printing mode is selected, a serial number and a pattern data of DNA is read from an IC tag of a DNA ink cartridge and a fingerprint of a printing person is read by a fingerprint authenticating unit. The pattern of the fingerprint and DNA which have been read are verified with the pattern data of fingerprints and DNA in a memory and personal authentication is carried out. Thereafter, a DNA ink is jetted on to a recording paper, and printing of an image by an image forming ink is carried out. By carrying out printing by such a method, it is possible to specify the printing person who has created the printed matter.

An ink supply device includes: an ink cartridge including a port which is provided in a rear surface thereof at a lower portion of the ink chamber and which allows ink to flow in an ink flow direction and an engaged portion which is provided on an upper surface thereof; a cartridge mounting portion into which the ink cartridge is insertable in an insertion direction wherein the cartridge mounting portion is configured to accommodate the ink cartridge movably between a first posture and a second posture; a joint which is provided in the cartridge mounting portion and is connected to the port; a first elastic member which urges the ink cartridge to a removal direction; and a lock member which is engaged with the engaged portion to prevent the ink cartridge from being moved in the removal direction by the urging force of the first elastic member.

Ink supply device

The ink tank includes an ink chamber and a cleaning solvent chamber. Ink is stored in the ink chamber. Cleaning solvent is stored in the cleaning solvent chamber. Mounting portions are provided on the bottom surface side of the ink tank. One of the mounting portions is provided corresponding to the ink chamber, and the other mounting portion is provided corresponding to the cleaning solvent chamber. The ink tank is mounted to a scanning carriage by the mounting portions being fitted into a holding unit of the scanning carriage. Deriving ports may be formed on the bottom surfaces of recesses of the mounting portions.
