A flow through type ion electrode apparatus including a number of interconnectable block structures. Each block structure includes recesses in respective faces thereof, which lead to a through hole extending between the faces. A membrane electrode is located within each block structure so as to communicate with the through hole. A spacer having a through hole therein is inserted in a recess of each of a pair of adjacent block structures to interconnect the adjacent block structures.

Additionally, the concentration of the same electrolytes in a blood sample can be measured without dilution, using the same calibrating solution.

A composition for use in a chloride ion electrode is provided herein. This composition is made up of a mixture of an epoxy resin, a vinyl chloride resin, one or more solvents, a quaternary ammonium salt and hardening agents for setting said epoxy resin; wherein said epoxy resin and the vinyl chloride resin is used at a ratio of 8:1 to 1:2 by weight. The present invention also relates to a response membrane produced from said composition and a method for producing the response membrane by setting or hardening the aforementioned composition. When the response membrane is used in the chloride ion selective electrode, it is capable of measuring a sample containing blood or protein and by use of the response membrane, it is possible to selectively determine chloride ions in a sample with a high degree of accuracy.

A cylindrical membrane holding member which is flat at one side surface, holds a sheet-like liquid membrane, the liquid membrane facing a liquid sample passage formed in a synthetic resin block, thereby to form a strong junction between the liquid membrane and the sample passage.
