In a motorcycle including grips provided at lateral ends of a steering handlebar to be grasped by an occupant, and a brake lever and a clutch lever provided forward of the steering handlebar, lever guards are provided at the lateral ends of the steering handlebar and extend forward to protect the brake lever and the clutch lever. Mirror bodies are attached to front portions of the lever guards.

An air outlet is formed on each side surface of a front cowl covering a front portion of a vehicle body. The air outlet is located near and on the front side of a middle position defined by the half of the longitudinal length L of the front cowl. Left and right air inlets are formed near a headlight provided on the front surface of the front cowl. A running wind is introduced into the air inlets, passed through the inside of the front cowl, and discharged from the air outlets. The running wind flowing inside the front cowl is disturbed by the running wind discharged from the air outlets, thereby separating the running wind from each side surface of the front cowl.

An intake system includes an air cleaner that is disposed above an engine main body mounted on a vehicle body frame and connected to cylinder heads of the engine main body and an air introducing unit for introducing air into an air inlet provided at a lateral part of the air cleaner on at least one side thereof in a vehicle width direction. The air introducing unit has an opened front end and is connected to the air cleaner so as to bend an intake direction from a vehicle front-rear direction to the vehicle width direction. In the air inlet, a plurality of ribs partition the air inlet into plural sections.

A structure for a headlight cowl for reducing the difference in steering feeling between the starting of a pivotal motion and a succeeding pivotal motion when the handlebar is pivoted so that the driver is less likely to have an uncomfortable feeling. The structure of a headlight cowl includes a steering apparatus supported for pivotal motion on a head pipe at a front end of a vehicle body frame and operable to turn a front wheel in accordance with a steering operation by a driver. A headlight cowl includes left and right side faces for covering the left side and the right side of a headlight provided on a front face of an upper portion of the steering apparatus and for guiding a flow of air to flow rearwardly. The headlight cowl includes projections that individually project outwardly in a vehicle widthwise direction from the left and right side faces.

A housing structure for a saddle type vehicle wherein the housing structure is not limited by the size of an opening/closing lid (shelter lid) for a fuel tank. The housing structure can provide a space for storage wherein the shelter lid is easily opened even when a heavy item is stored in the space. A tank shelter is formed by a cover that can be divided into a plurality of covers. A housing pocket is fixed to the inside of the tank shelter. A loading and unloading opening in the housing pocket faces an opening portion of the tank shelter. A dimension in a direction of vehicle width of the housing pocket is larger than a width of the opening portion of the tank shelter.

A front surface of a front cowl and the windscreen are disposed so as to form a gap therebetween, and a screen cover is fixed over the front surface in an engaged state. An upper portion of the screen cover covers a lower portion of the windscreen so that the gap is invisible externally. In addition, an intake port substantially in the shape of a slit elongated in the front-rear direction is provided between each side part of the screen cover and the front surface, in an obliquely rising outwardly opening shape. Traveling wind is laterally taken in through the intake ports, to be led through the gap to the inner side of the windscreen.

A cowl structure that is small in size and light, and that is effective in preventing air discharged from a radiator from being applied to the legs of the rider. An upper cowl includes ridges projecting laterally outwardly in the transverse direction of the vehicle, slanted surfaces extending from the ridges in the forward direction of the vehicle and directed toward the center of the vehicle, and rear slanted surfaces extending from the ridges in a rearward direction of the vehicle and directed toward the center of the vehicle. The air discharged from the radiator is not applied to the legs of the rider. Since the action is achieved simply by deforming the upper cowl, the cowl can be reduced in size and weight.
