The present invention relates to a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprising an anode (), a cathode () and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The anode forming this battery includes composite particles having a carbon material included in a metallic material. As the metallic material, metal capable of electrochemically reacting with lithium in a nonaqueous electrolyte is included.

Provided are an anode material capable of improving a capacity and cycle characteristics, and a battery using the anode material. A disk-shaped cathode contained in a package can and a disk-shaped anode contained in a package cup are laminated with a separator in between. The anode comprises a composite material formed through applying a compressive force and a shearing force to at least a part of a surface of a base material including at least one kind selected from Group 14 elements except for carbon so as to combine a carbonaceous material with the base material, thereby the capacity and the cycle characteristics can be improved.

Anode material and battery using the same

Provided is a battery with a higher capacity and superior charge-discharge cycle characteristics. A cathode contained in a package can and an anode contained in a package cup are laminated with a separator in between. The separator is impregnated with an electrolyte solution formed by dissolving lithium salt in a solvent. The anode comprises a tin-containing material including metallic tin and an intermetallic compound including tin in the same particle. A higher capacity and superior charge-discharge cycles can be obtained by the tin-containing material.

A non-aqueous electrolyte battery includes an cathode having an cathode mixture layer containing an cathode active material; an anode having an anode mixture layer containing an anode active material which includes a first active material and/or a second active material, where the first active material includes a metal, alloy or compound capable of react with lithium, and the second active material includes a carbonaceous material; and a non-aqueous electrolytic solution. By allowing the anode to contain the first active material in a predetermined amount, and by controlling the packing ratio of the anode mixture layer, the anode is successfully prevented from being degraded due to expansion-and-shrinkage of the anode active material in response to the charge/discharge cycle, and thus degradation of the charge/discharge characteristics of the battery is suppressed.

Non-aqueous electrolyte battery

Disclosed is a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery having an excellent preservation characteristic at a high temperature and charging/discharging cycle characteristic. A rolled body in which a strip-shape positive electrode and negative electrode are rolled with a separator in-between is provided inside a battery can. The positive electrode contains LiMnMaO(where, Ma is at least one element selected from the group consisting of metal elements other than Mn, and B) and LiNiMbO(where, Mb is at least one element selected from the group consisting of metal elements other than Ni, and B). By replacing part of Mn and Ni with other elements, the crystal structure can be stabilized. Thereby, the capacity retention ratio after preservation at a high temperature, and a heavy load discharging power under a high electric potential cutoff can be improved. The mean particle size of particles of the above-mentioned oxides are preferable to be 30 &#x3bc;m and below so that an excellent charging/discharging cycle characteristic can be obtained.

Material for positive electrode and secondary battery

An alloy powder containing at least one element selected from the group consisting of the Group 14 elements exclusive of C and the Group 13 elements exclusive of Tl is subjected to a mechanical milling treatment, to obtain a negative electrode active material. Alternately, a raw material including a powder containing at least one element selected from the group consisting of the Group 14 elements exclusive of C and the Group 13 elements exclusive of Tl is subjected to a mechanical alloying treatment at a reaction temperature of below 90&deg; C., to obtain a negative electrode active material. The negative electrode active material is restrained from the expansion and contraction attendant on the doping and dedoping of lithium which is characteristic of the alloy material, a negative electrode using the negative electrode active material is restrained from the change to a particulate form attendant on charging and discharging, and a nonaqueous electrolyte cell using the negative electrode shows both an excellent charging-discharging cycle characteristic and a high discharging capacity.

Negative electrode active material, method of producing the same, and nonaqueous electrolyte cell

A method of manufacturing a negative material and a secondary battery in which a belt-shaped positive electrode and a belt-shaped negative electrode are wound together with a separator in between them to form a wound electrode body. The wound electrode battery is then inserted inside a battery can. Preferably, the negative electrode is produced with crushed silicon or a silicon compound in an oxygen partial pressure atmosphere within a value from higher than 10 Pa to lower than an oxygen partial pressure of air.

Methods of manufacturing negative material and secondary battery

The present invention provides a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary cell including: a lithium-nickel composite oxide as a cathode active material and a material having a specific surface in the range from 0.05 m /g to 2 m /g as an anode active material. When A is assumed to be the weight of the lithium-nickel composite oxide and B is assumed to be the weight of the cathode active material other than the lithium-nickel composite oxide, the mixture ratio R expressed A/(A&plus;B) is in the range from 0.2 to 1. This combination of the cathode active material and the anode active material enables to obtain an improved anti-over discharge characteristic even when an anode current collector contains Cu.

Non-aqueous electrolyte secondary cell

A material for a negative electrode capable of preventing change in the volume of an active material occurring when lithium is doped/dedoped to improve resistance against cycle operations. A material for a negative electrode contains a mixture of a non-carbon material and a carbon material, wherein when an assumption is made that the average particle size of the non-carbon material is R,and the average particle size of the carbon material is R,, the ratio R,/R,is not higher than one, and when an assumption is made that the weight of the non-carbon material is W,and the weight of the carbon is W,, the ratio W,/W,is not higher than one or a mixture of a silicon compound and a carbon material, wherein when an assumption is made that the average particle size of the silicon compound is R,and the average particle size of the carbon material is R,, the ratio R,/R,is not higher than one.
