An image processing apparatus structured by combining an image reading apparatus and an image formation apparatus with each other enables a user to freely combine these apparatuses without considering the sum of power consumption of the image reading apparatus and power consumption of the image formation apparatus. When the sum of power consumption of a reader unit and power consumption of a printer unit exceeds, e.g., 1.5 kW, the reader unit is set to be in a low power consumption mode such that the sum of power consumption becomes equal to or smaller than 1.5 kW. Even when the low power consumption mode of the least power consumption quantity is selected and the sum of power consumption still exceeds 1.5 kW, use of the apparatus is inhibited and the inhibition is displayed.

Disclosed is an image processing apparatus in which, when the apparatus has not been not used for a prescribed period of time, control is performed so as to halt feed of current not only to a display unit and fixing heater but also to other components not required to operate when the apparatus is not in use, and in which on/off control of the power supply also can be performed through a more compact and less expensive arrangement. When a manually operated switch is being pressed by an operator, a transistor is turned on via the contacts of the switch so that power from a smoothing unit is applied to a regulator. The regulator supplies operating power to a microcomputer, which subsequently controls the status of the apparatus power supply depending upon the on/off state of an output port of the microcomputer. Supply of driving power to other components of the apparatus is achieved by opening and closing contacts through control of a relay in response to an output from another output port of the microcomputer.

A coordinate input apparatus (editor) of a copying apparatus and the like includes: a tablet to output a signal indicative of a position which is arbitrarily designated; a pointing device to designate an arbitrary point on the tablet; a recognizing circuit to recognize the positions in the X and Y directions of the point designated by the pointing device; a data memory to store the positions of the designated point; a controller which, when a special area on the tablet is designated by the pointing device, allows the signal indicative of the special area to be output; and a correcting circuit to correct the range of the special area. The positions of the designated point in the X and Y directions are detected a plurality of times and compared. The input coordinate data is discriminated by the result of the comparison to see if it is valid or invalid. When the input data is valid, a copying operation is performed. When it is invalid, the copying operation is stopped and the fact that the input data is improper is displayed by an LED indicator and a buzzer is activated. With this apparatus, the coordinate data can be accurately input from the editor and also the accurate trimming or masking of the image can be realized without an erroneous input operation.
