Provided is a low-cost catalyst that has excellent oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalytic activity and is useful as a catalyst for water electrolysis, an electrode catalyst for an air battery, or the like. The catalyst includes (A) Ni atoms, (B) a condensate of thiourea and formaldehyde, and (C) porous carbon.

Provided is a catalyst that has excellent oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalytic activity and is useful as a catalyst for water electrolysis, an electrode catalyst for an air battery, or the like. The catalyst includes (A) either or both of Ni atoms and Fe atoms, (B) thiourea, and (C) fibrous carbon nanostructures. It is preferable that the catalyst includes (A) Ni atoms and Fe atoms, that the thiourea is coordinated with the Ni atoms and the Fe atoms, and that a mass ratio of the content of a Ni-thiourea coordination compound relative to the content of an Fe-thiourea coordination compound (Ni-thiourea coordination compound/Fe-thiourea coordination compound) is not less than 5/95 and not more than 70/30.

A multilayer film including: a first long-length substrate; and an optically anisotropic layer containing cured liquid crystal molecules, the optically anisotropic layer being directly disposed on a surface of the first substrate, wherein the surface of the first substrate has a surface tension of 35 to 45 mN/m and an orientation-regulation force generated by stretching, and the optically anisotropic layer has a slow axis along approximately the same direction as an orientation direction of the first substrate by the stretching; and an optical compensation sheet, a &#x3bb;/4 wave plate, a polarizing plate, a circularly polarizing plate, a liquid crystal display device, and an organic electroluminescent display device having the optically anisotropic layer, as well as production methods thereof.

A liquid crystal composition including: a polymerizable liquid crystal compound capable of expressing birefringence with inverse wavelength dispersion; a surfactant containing a fluorine atom; and a solvent, wherein the surfactant contains a fluorine atom at a ratio of 30% by weight or less in a molecule of the surfactant.
