A heat exchanger for medical treatment comprises a cylindrical blood passing space and a multiplicity of heat-exchanging tubes disposed inside the blood passing space and extending in the longitudinal direction of the blood passing space and provided with an inner space watertightly separated from the blood passing space for effecting exchange of heat between the blood being passed through the blood passing space and a heat-exchanging medium being passed through the inner spaces of the heat-exchnging tubes through the medium of walls of the heat-exchanging tubes. Blood inlet tube for introducing blood into the blood passing space and a blood outlet tube for discharging blood from within the blood passing space are expended inwardly from outside substantially along a straight lines perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the blood passing space and tangent to the peripheral plane of the blood passsing space and communicating with the blood passing space. Optionally, the heat exchanger further comprises blood chambers disposed one each near the blood inlet and the blood outlet and each formed of an empty space destitute or devoid of the arrangement of the heat-exchanging tubes, and ribs formed on the inner wall of the blood passing space for retarding the flow of blood.

Heat exchanger for medical treatment

A medical valve comprises a valve member made of a flexible elastic material and having at least two faces. A first slit is disposed between a first face of said at least two faces and a second face of said at least two faces, and a second slit is disposed between said first face and said second face, wherein the first slit and the second slit intersect each other. A first opening width of the first slit on the first face is different from a second opening width of the first slit on the second face, and a first opening width of the second slit on the first face is different from a second opening width of the second slit on the second face. A catheter assembly comprises a catheter and a connecting instrument. The catheter includes a hollow body introducible into a blood vessel and a proximal member communicating with a hollow portion of the hollow body, the proximal member having an introduction passage in which a valve is disposed therein. The connecting instrument includes a tubular portion connectable to the introduction passage and insertable in a liquid sealing manner through the valve disposed in the introduction passage. The distal end of the tubular portion of the connecting instrument is disposed adjacent to an inner surface of the interior of the hollow body of the catheter when the connecting instrument is connected to the introduction passage of the proximal member of the catheter.

A heat or material exchanger is provided which comprises a cylindrical housing having a first fluid inlet and a first fluid outlet, an assembly of heat or material-exchange tubes in the housing, partitions securing the opposed ends of the assembly to the housing in a fluid tight seal to partition the housing interior into a first fluid chamber in fluid communication with the first fluid inlet and the first fluid outlet and a second fluid chamber defined in the assembly, a second fluid inlet and a second fluid outlet in fluid communication with the second fluid chamber, an independent space defined by the inner wall of the housing and one partition and extending the entire circumference of the housing, but not in fluid communication with the first and second fluid chambers, and a vent in the housing for communicating the space to the ambient atmosphere. When the partition is separated away from the housing, the second fluid enters the space through the gap between the partition and the housing and drains outside through the vent without entering the first fluid chamber. Drainage of second fluid indicates the separation between the partition and the housing.

Material exchangers

A heat or material exchanger is provided which comprises a cylindrical housing having a first fluid inlet and a first fluid outlet, an assembly of heat or material-exchange tubes in the housing, partitions securing the opposed ends of the assembly to the housing in a fluid tight seal to partition the housing interior into a first fluid chamber in fluid communication with the first fluid inlet and the first fluid outlet and a second fluid chamber defined in the assembly, a second fluid inlet and a second fluid outlet in fluid communication with the second fluid chamber, an independent spaced defined by the inner wall of the housing and one partition and extending the entire circumference of the housing, but not in fluid communication with the first and second fluid chambers, and a vent in the housing for communicating the space to the ambient atmosphere. When the partition is separated away from the housing, the second fluid enters the space through the gap between the partition and the housing and drains outside through the vent without entering the first fluid chamber. Drainage of second fluid indicates the separation between the partition and the housing.

A blood storage container includes a blood storage chamber having a blood outlet port, a blood inlet chamber disposed upstream of the blood storage chamber with respect to a direction in which blood to be stored flows, a blood debubblizer for debubblizing the blood, the blood debubblizer being disposed between the blood inlet chamber and the blood storage chamber, and an air bubble stop unit for preventing air bubbles in the blood from flowing therethrough, the air bubble stop unit being disposed downstream of the blood debubblizer. The air bubble stop unit has mesh screens of different mesh sizes which are supported in a frame that is detachably disposed in the blood storage chamber.

Blood storage container

In a blood reservoir comprising a container casing defining a space for accommodating blood, the casing having a generally rectangular contour defining a pair of top and bottom sides and a pair of laterally opposed sides, provided that the casing assumes a vertically upright attitude, an inlet port is disposed in one lateral side of the casing for introducing blood into the space, an outlet port is disposed in the bottom side of the casing for discharging blood from the space, and a vent port disposed in the top side of the casing in fluid communication with the space. In another form, a partition separates the space into upper and lower compartments, and apertures are formed in the partition for allowing partial fluid communication between the compartments. The inlet port and the vent port are in communication with the upper compartment, and the outlet port is in communication with the lower compartment.
