An update control method executed by a processor included in an update control apparatus configured to update control programs respectively set up in a plurality of computers, the update control method includes acquiring update information and new control programs, the update information indicating update priority of the control programs of the plurality of computers and a progress status of the update; providing the new control programs to the plurality of computers; updating the progress status included in the update information based on information about a computer with the update of the control program completed among the computers; determining, based on the updated progress status, timings to reboot the plurality of respective computers such that the control programs of the plurality of computers are updated according to the update priority indicated by the update information; and updating the control programs of the plurality of computers based on the determined timings.

A storage system includes a storage apparatus, a control apparatus, and a host apparatus. The storage apparatus includes a recording medium. The control apparatus includes a detection unit and a control unit. The detection unit detects whether a recording medium loaded in the storage apparatus is a stand-alone-only recording medium that is used in a stand-alone mode. When the recording medium is the stand-alone-only recording medium, the control unit registers a physical volume of the stand-alone-only recording medium as a logical volume and automatically switches the operation mode of the control apparatus to the stand-alone mode.

A library apparatus of the present invention has directors which respectively determine operations of two carrying devices traveling along one traveling path. A servo control units move the carrying devices based on the determination of the directors. The serv control units obtain positional data of the carrying devices, and judge whether or not the carrying devices come into contact with each other by comparing these pieces of positional data. The servo control unit, when judging that the carrying devices come into contact with each other, stops a driving circuit of each carrying device. A drive of a motor for supplying each carrying device with power is thereby stopped, and the carrying device is stopped.

An MPU of a second subcontroller in a library apparatus executes an intra-memory apparatus construction data creation program, thereby controlling operations of an accessor and of a bar code reader. Unit construction data is thereby obtained from a bar code label attached to each unit. It is therefore feasible to automatically input the data about a position where a drum unit is disposed, and the number of magnetic tape cartridges that can be housed in the drum unit.

Library apparatus

A library apparatus having components permitting accurate and straightforward assembly. The library apparatus includes respective cell, drive, accessor and passage units, each having box shaped housings including a connection mechanism. A coupling couples the housings of the passage units with the other units. Other features of the library apparatus include a reference mark on the accessor unit which permits a transport mechanism in the passage unit to correct positional errors of the transport mechanism to other components.
