A transmitter equipped with a plurality of transmission path ports and a relay section. The relay section has a routing table and a router. In the routing table, information about the relay of the received packet to one of the transmission path ports connected to a relay transmission path is stored, correlated with both a port identifier of each the transmission path port and the source address of the transmitter that transmitted the packet. The router extracts the port identifier of the transmission path port that received the packet and the source address contained in the received packet, and routes the received packet to the transmission path port connected to the relay transmission path by referring to the routing table for the extracted port identifier and the extracted source address.

Digital transmission apparatus for transmitting asynchronous frames by accomodating them in synchronous frames

A transmission apparatus includes a reception line selecting unit, a communication confirming frame transmitting unit, a communication confirming table, and a reception line deciding unit. The reception line selecting unit selects one of several reception lines each formed by the synchronous network. The frame transmitting unit transmits a communication confirming frame to the synchronous network at least at a predetermined period. The communication confirming table stores each reception time of the communication confirming frame received through the synchronous network. The deciding unit decides occurrence of failure on the reception line corresponding to the reception time when a difference between a reception time stored in the table and a present time at the predetermined period exceeds a predetermined value, and transmits instructions for switching the reception line to the reception line selecting unit.

Transmission apparatus and a method for transmitting data in a data transmission system

A ring transmission system includes nodes connected in a ring shape by transmission lines to communicate with each other. Each node includes a cell extracting unit which receives a cell from the transmission lines and separates a control field from the cell in accordance with a communication control procedure, the control field including a number of bits containing management data and a destination, the management data indicating information related to maintenance and operation of the ring transmission system. A separating unit separates, from the control field, one of management data for the node and management data for another node by comparing the destination with an identification of the node. A management data processing unit generates processed management data from the management data when the destination indicates the node. An intermediate unit generates a new cell containing the management data from the separating unit when the destination indicates the another node. The management data of the new cell is distinctly different from the processed management data. The intermediate unit transmits the new cell to the transmission lines.
