An access control apparatus includes a memory and a command executor executing an access process on a command with the command completion time limit. An address of an inaccessible recording area is stored in the memory. Data attempted to be written on the inaccessible recording area is obtained. The data is stored in association with the address in the memory. An automated alternate processor executes the automated alternate process of the inaccessible recording area in a predefined period of time after the process executed by the command executor is completed. A memory updater deletes the address of the inaccessible recording area whose automated alternate process has succeeded and the data attempted to be written in the recording area at the address.

Access control apparatus and access control method

A disk storage device stores write data in a cache area of a data buffer according to a write command from a host, reports write completion to the host, and then writes the write data in the cache area to a storage medium. The disk storage device stores the write data stored in the data buffer in a save area created on the storage disk in response to the reception of a command which requires integrity, other than a write command, and reports a response to the host. Therefore processing time of this command and response time to the host can be decreased, while maintaining the safety of the write data.

Disk storage device and cache control method for disk storage device

A medium storage apparatus writes data for stream type commands on a medium, and improves the reliability of the write data while maintaining the execution time of the commands. The apparatus has a buffer for storing the write data of the write stream type commands, a controller for sequentially writing the data of the buffer to the medium by a head, and a processing unit for skipping the writing of erred sectors for continuing the processing which normally ends if an error occurs, and writing the data to the skipped sector after command execution. By this, the error is corrected such that the medium is correctly read in the next and later read processing, while maintaining the write time specified by the command.

Write processing method for stream type commands and medium storage apparatus

A medium storage device reads device specific information from a medium to a memory and performs read/write operation to the medium, which allows receiving commands from a host even if a read error of the device specific information occurs. When an error occurs during the device specific information read processing of the medium storage device after power ON, the alternate data stored in the medium is developed so as to recover the power ON error artificially. For this alternate data, the data at factory shipment is saved in a ROM or a system area of a medium in advance, and is developed from here when necessary. Since commands can be received and executed, a disabled startup of the host system can be prevented.

Recovery processing method for device specific information of medium storage device and medium storage device

After the power supply of a disk drive that uses a head to write data at any position on a disk or read data written at any position is turned on, the first initial conditions for the disk drive that are needed to receive a command from outside and execute the command are determined. The disk drive is then brought to a state in which it can receive the command but the spindle motor is not started. After the disk drive is brought to the state in which it can receive the command, the spindle motor is started and the second initial conditions including all initial conditions other than the first initial conditions are determined. Moreover, a control method for a disk drive that is implemented in the above disk drive is disclosed.
