The present invention provides a root canal length measuring apparatus and a root canal treatment apparatus which can acquire a position of a measurement electrode with high reproducibility in the same root canal. The root canal length measuring apparatus includes a measurement electrode which is inserted into a root canal, an oral electrode which is held in an oral cavity, a measuring section which applies an electric measuring signal between the measurement electrode and the oral electrode and specifies an apex position so as to measure a root canal length, a memory means which stores position data corresponding to a position of the measurement electrode in a root canal acquired by the measuring section, and an operating means which instructs the memory means to store the position data.

An object of the preset invention is to provide a medical lighting apparatus capable of illuminating an affected part with proper illuminance while assuring a work space for an operator near the affected part. The periodontal pocket measurement apparatus of the present invention comprises a main handpiece unit provided with a cover member for covering the front end portion thereof, an operation member mounted at the front end of the cover member and being slidable in the longitudinal direction of the cover member, a flexible sleeve attached to the operation member and projecting from the front end of the cover member, and a probe attached to the cover member, passing through the sleeve and being exposable at its tip from the tip of the sleeve, being characterized in that the main handpiece unit is provided with energizing means for pushing a movable portion including the operation member and the sleeve toward the front end. With this structure, operation can be made easily when measuring the depth of a periodontal pocket of a patient by detecting the positional difference between the tip of the probe and the tip of the sleeve when the tip of the probe is inserted into the bottom portion of the periodontal pocket and the tip of the sleeve is made contact with the upper fringe of the gingiva.

A motor controller for a dental handpiece comprising a torque detection means for detecting the load torque applied to a cutting tool, and a control means for stopping a cutting tool drive motor, reducing the rotation speed of the motor or temporarily reversing the motor when the detected load torque has reached a preset reference torque. With this controller, a cutting tool such as a relatively slender file for root canal formation can be prevented from breaking. In addition, the operability of the handpiece can be improved, and operation such as root canal formation can be conducted easily.

The present invention discloses a handpiece having a root canal length measurement function, wherein a signal circuit, which is specifically provided for sending measurement signals from a root canal length measurement circuit to a measurement probe mounted on a head provided at the tip of the handpiece, is incorporated in the handpiece, and the signal circuit is electrically connected to the measurement probe via a contact piece in the vicinity of the measurement probe. Therefore, it is not necessary to connect the signal circuit for measurement by way of the outside of the handpiece. In addition, this structure improves the operability of the handpiece because there is no lead wire for connection. Furthermore, this structure eliminates the troublesome task of externally connecting lead wires to the head of the handpiece, which would otherwise be required at each treatment time. Moreover, the signal circuit is securely formed without passing through a drive power transmission mechanism, thereby preventing unstable operation of root canal length measurement due to instantaneous opening of the signal circuit. Additionally, it is possible to use a cutting tool having a shank portion and a cutting portion insulated from each other.
