Disclosed is a biaxially oriented poly-p-phenylene sulfide film prepared from a resin composition comprising poly-p-phenylene sulfide as its principal component, 20-1000 ppm of at least one metal belonging to IA group or IIA group of the periodic table and 100-600 ppm of nitrogen, the poly-p-phenylene sulfide having an weight average molecular weight Mw of 30,000-90,000, and a ratio of weight average molecular weight to number average molecular weight Mw/Mn of 3-10. The film of the present invention has an excellent mechanical properties and dimensional stability, as well as excellent clearness.

The present invention provides with a shaped article of a fluorocarbon polymer having a fluorine/carbon ratio of 1.9 to 2.0, in which at least a part of surface has a fluorine/carbon ratio of 0.8 to 1.8. The shaped article has an improved adhesive properties, especially heat-sealing adhesive property and can be manufactured by a low-temperature plasma treatment of the surface of the fluorocarbon polymer shaped article. As compared with conventional surface-reformed ones, the fluorocarbon polymer shaped article of this invention has an improved adhesive property, especially for heat-sealing, which is not deteriorated during their storage either at a high temperature, at a high humidity or on exposure to ultraviolet ray.

Disclosed is a biaxially stretched polyester film having a modified surface with an excellent bondability, in which both the surface smoothness and the slip characteristic, which are contradictory to each other, are satisfactory. This biaxially stretched polyester film has a multiplicity of ultra-fine protrusions which are an integral part of the film and dyeable with osmic acid. The film is prepared by subjecting an undrawn or drawn polyester sheet to a plasma treatment and then drawing the treated sheet at least once. Disclosed is a magnetic recording medium which comprises a film of an aromatic polyamide having at least 50 mole % of recurring units represented by the following general formula: ##STR1## wherein m and n are integers of from 0 to 4, with the proviso that the case where both of m and n are 0 is excluded, and at least one high performance magnetic layer of a metal or metal compound vacuum-deposited on the aromatic polyamide film. This magnetic recording medium shows a reduced dimensional change and is substantially free of curling or breakage due to elongation, and is excellent in flatness and adhesive strength between the base film and the magnetic layer. Accordingly, this magnetic recording medium is suitable for high-density magnetic recording.

In plasma-treating the inner surface of a plastic tube, the invention provides a treating method which ensures stable treatment under readily operative conditions. The present invention relates to a method comprising the steps of placing a plastic tube inside an electrically insulating tube wherein the difference between the inner diameter of the insulating tube and the outer diameter of the plastic tube is equal to or less than 2 mm, letting a gas into the plastic tube, keeping the inner pressures of both tubes at a reduced pressure, applying a high voltage across electrodes disposed outside the electrically insulating tube to initiate and sustain discharge only inside the plastic tube and thereby plasma-treating the inner surface of the plastic tube.

Also provided is a method for preparing stabilized polyphenylene sulfide comprising preparing a polyphenylene sulfide consisting mainly of a recurring unit ##STR2## wherein the degree of polymerization of said recurring unit is greater than about 20, and reacting said polyphenylene sulfide with about 0.05 to about 20 mole % per said phenylene sulfide unit of a halogenated aromatic compound having an electron attractive group.

The present invention relates to a process for producing an of aromatic polyimide film comprising (A) casting on a support a dope containing an amide-type polar solvent and 10-45 weight percent of a polyamic acid having more than 0.4 dl/g an inherent viscosity of more than 0.4 dl/g, (B) concentrating the polymer content to be at least higher than that of the initial dope while simultaneously raising the ring closure ratio above 30%, (C) removing the solvent from the film by extraction in an aqueous medium so as to lower the solvent content of the film below 10% and (D) then heating the film to a temperature of more than 200.degree. C. The process of the present invention is useful for the production of aromatic polyimide film having a reduced rate of solvent decomposition and improved productivity. The aromatic polyimide film produced by the process of the present invention is superior in thermal as well as mechanical properties and is highly useful as an electric insulation material and also as a base for flexible printed circuits, magnetic tape, etc.

A poly-p-phenylene sulfide resin composition comprising poly-p-phenylene sulfide as a principal component and 0.05 to 40 wt % (based on the total weight of the composition) of at least one metal component selected from the group consisting of zinc, lead, magnesium, manganese, barium and tin. The plastic materials prepared from the composition of this invention are greatly improved in resistance to copper contact and thermal resistance in closed air environment, and therefore are very useful for electrical insulation.

This invention relates to a polyvinyl chloride sheet comprising crosslinked thin layer(s) and uncrosslinked layer(s), at least one surface of the sheet being a crosslinked layer. The thickness of the said crosslinked layer ranges between about 0.05 to about 2 microns, and the degree of the chlorination of the said layer is not greater than about 45% of that of the uncrosslinked layer, and the degree of heat shrinkage is not greater than about 1%.
