A memory media archiving and management system is provided in which data entrusted for archiving by a user can be rapidly retrieved. The memory media archiving system receives a memory media archiving request from a user to archive memory media. A database stores information relating to archiving locations for the memory media. That database receives from the user, via a communication line, volume names established for each of the memory media to be archived, and identifying information corresponding to the volume names. The system holds the information in association with information relating to archiving locations for the memory media.

Memory media archiving system and operating method therefor

The present invention allows a back-up site used for disaster recovery to be constructed in a shorter period of time. In a disk array deviceat a main site, a copyof a RAID groupis generated. In-frame mirroring is used to generate this copy. The RAID groupis removed from the disk array deviceby an operator and transported to a back-up site. The operator then installs each of the disks of the RAID group, respectively, in the disk array device, in such a manner that they adopt the same positions as in the RAID group. The configuration informationused in order to manage the RAID groupis downloaded to the disk array devicein the back-up site, by means of a portable storage medium, or via a communications network. Thereupon, the differential data between the disk array devicesis reflected in the disk array device, whereupon construction of the back-up site is complete.

Method for operating storage system including a main site and a backup

The present invention provides an image reducing system and method capable of retaining fine lines in a reduced image by reducing an original image and by quickly forming the reduced image with high quality. The method includes specifying positions of pixels of a reduced image in the original image according to reduction ratios, extracting a run of pieces of the same color information about the color of the pixels of the original image as a line, determining the line width of the extracted line and determining the line width after reduction in the reduction ratios based on the line width of the extracted line and calculating the centroid of the extracted line, and retaining the color information about the extracted line at a reduced pixel near the centroid on the basis of the centroid of the extracted line and the line width after reduction. The method further performs the step of determining the color information about each reduced pixel based on the retained color information.

Apparatus and method for image reduction

A document information compression and retrieval system which reduces the document data amount and shortens the retrieval time when mass document information is registered and retrieved. A method of registering document information in a document information retrieval system which stores document information consisting of a large number of characters for retrieval of the stored document information. Entered document information is separated into words. Whether or not each of the words is a word to which a compressed code is assigned is determined. If not already assigned, a compressed code is assigned to the word. The words are converted into the assigned compressed codes for storing a compressed text. At output, retrieval information is accepted and converted into compressed code and stored compressed texts are searched for the compressed text matching the compressed code of the retrieval information, then the words corresponding to the compressed codes are used to expand the compressed text into original document information.
