An organic EL display device includes scanning lines, video signal lines, and pixels, each including a TFT having a semiconductor layer and an organic EL layer located between a lower electrode and an upper electrode. A source electrode connecting the semiconductor layer and the lower electrode is formed of three layers including a barrier metal, an Al-containing metal, and a cap metal. The barrier metal is formed of a first layer in contact with the semiconductor layer and a second layer in contact with the Al-containing metal. Each of the first layer, the second layer, and the cap metal is formed of a metal comprising a high melting point metal, and an amount of oxygen in the first layer is larger than an amount of oxygen in the second layer.

A contact resistance in a through-hole with a source or a drain electrode connected to a TFT is decreased, thereby improving the operation efficiency of a display device. In the through-hole, a source portion of the TFT is connected to a source electrode. The source electrodeis formed of three layers comprising a barrier metal, an Al alloy, and a cap metal. The barrier metal is divided into a lower layerin contact with the semiconductor layer and an upper layerin contact with the Al alloy. The lower layerof the barrier metal is formed by sputtering, the lower layeris heat-treated and, subsequently, an upper layerof the base metal, the Al alloy, and the cap metalare formed continuously by sputtering. Since the upper layerof the barrier metal in contact with the Al alloyis not oxidized, increase in the contact resistance in the through-hole can be prevented.

Liquid crystal display device comprising a TFT with a barrier metal formed of a first layer and a second layer wherein the first layer is denser than the second layer

Provided is a technology for preventing current leak of a charge holding capacitor which constitutes a pixel of a display device so as to prevent deterioration of display image quality of the display device. The display device includes a first contact hole connecting a first wiring layer and a second wiring layer which is formed over the first wiring layer, a second contact hole connecting the second wiring layer and a third wiring layer which is formed over the second wiring layer, and an electrode layer formed between the plurality of insulating films disposed between the second wiring layer and the third wiring layer, wherein at a position in a substrate surface direction, a distance between a electrode layer and the second contact hole is larger than a distance between the electrode layer and the first contact hole.

Active matrix display device

The present invention prevents electrostatic breakdown attributed to static electricity even in and after a cell cutting step. In a display device which includes a substrate, a plurality of pixels which is formed in a pixel part, a plurality of video lines which applies video voltages to the plurality of pixels, and a video voltage selection circuit which selects the video voltages to be inputted to the pixels and applies the selected video voltages to the predetermined video lines among the plurality of video lines, an electrostatic protective circuit for protecting a pixel part is connected to the plurality of video voltage inputting lines which inputs the video voltages to the video voltage selection circuit, and an electrostatic protective circuit for protecting a peripheral circuit is connected to the lines other than the video voltage inputting lines which is connected to the video voltage selection circuit. The electrostatic protective circuit for protecting the pixel part is connected between the plurality of video voltage inputting lines, and the electrostatic protective circuit for protecting the peripheral circuit is connected between the at least one video voltage inputting line and the line other than the at least one video voltage inputting line, between the plurality of lines other than the video voltage inputting lines, and between the line other than the at least one video voltage inputting line and a reference voltage line to which a reference voltage is applied.

Display device

The TFT substrate includes a conductive region electrically conducted to the transparent conductive film and a terminal region, on a first side not covered with the counter substrate. The terminal region includes a ground terminal connected to the conductive region and an adjacent terminal which is adjacent to the ground terminal and supplies signals or power source to the peripheral circuit. The adjacent terminal is connected to the peripheral circuit through a first wiring installed along a third side of the TFT substrate toward a second side facing the first side. The first wiring is extended to a middle point of the third side and then connected to the peripheral circuit.

A first conductive layer in which a first electrode film is formed, a first protective layer on the first conductive layer, a first hole penetrating through the first protective layer to reach the first electrode film, a second conductive layer including a second electrode film which is disposed on the first protective layer and in contact with a portion of the first electrode film at the bottom of the first hole and the lower electrode, a second protective layer disposed on the second conductive layer and including the insulating film, a second hole disposed on the second protective layer and penetrating through the second protective layer to reach the second electrode film, and a third conductive layer including a third electrode film which is in contact with a portion of the second electrode film at the bottom of the second hole and the upper electrode.

Transparent type liquid crystal display device

A display device includes sub-pixels, video lines, a drive circuit and switch groups. The video lines are divided into plural blocks each composed of m video lines, m being an integer of 2 or more. The drive circuit outputs m gray scale voltages time-sequentially. Each of the switch groups corresponding to one of the blocks is composed of first to mth switches, receives the m gray scale voltages from the drive circuit, and then supplies them to the m video lines in a time-division multiplexed fashion. The mth switch is turned on last during a writing time for writing the m gray scale voltages into the sub-pixels, and Tq&#x3c;Tm, where Tm and Tq are times during which the mth switch and a qth switch of the first to (m&#x2212;1)th switches are turned on, respectively, and q is an integer of from 1 to (m&#x2212;1).

Display device employing a time-division-multiplexed driver

A display device having gate signal lines, a scanning signal driving circuit which supplies scanning signals to respective gate signal lines, drain signal lines, and a video signal driving circuit which supplies video signals to respective drain signal lines formed on one surface of an insulating substrate. The display device includes a first thin film transistor which is driven by the scanning signals, a pixel electrode to which the video signals are supplied through the first thin film transistor in each pixel region. The video signal driving circuit includes a dynamic memory which is comprised of a plurality of other thin film transistors formed in parallel with the first thin film transistor, and at least one thin film transistor among the plurality of other thin film transistors is covered with a conductive film having a potential which is fixed through an insulation film.

Display device with divided display regions

A display device, which exhibits improved image qualities has a pair of substrates which sandwich a liquid crystal layer therebetween. On one of the substrates there are a plurality of video signal lines, a plurality of pixel electrodes, which are arranged in a matrix array and to which video signals are supplied from the video signal lines, and a plurality of conductive layers, which are provided at positions where portions thereof overlap with the video signal lines by way of an insulation film. The respective conductive layers are electrically connected to respective video signal lines. Further, the conductive layer is able to prevent light irradiated from a backlight from leaking through a gap defined between two neighboring pixel electrodes.

For suppressing a brightness irregularity and contrast deterioration in a displaying screen of a liquid crystal display device which comprises a pair of substrates at least one of which is transparent, at least two kinds of color filters being formed on one of the pair of substrates, a black matrix being provided between the color filters, a group of electrodes being formed on either one of the pair of substrates, a layer of liquid crystal compounds sealed between the pair of substrates, due to noise electrical field appearing therein or unevenness of a cell gap between the pair of substrates, the present invention provides a columnar spacer having smaller resistivity than that of the liquid crystal compounds in a part of an area on the one of the pair of substrates which is hidden by the black matrix.

To provide a transverse electric field liquid crystal display device which eliminates the leakage of light and suppresses the disturbance of the electric field between the electrodes, thus enabling an image display of high quality, a liquid crystal display device has a liquid crystal panel which provides at least two kinds of color filters FIL(R), FIL(G) . . . of different colors and a black matrix BM interposed between said respective color filters on one substrate SUB2, a group of electrodes PX, CT, CT , CT , SD . . . for selecting pixels formed on the other substrate SUB1, a liquid crystal layer LC made of a liquid crystal composition sandwiched between the substrates and having a dielectric anisotropy, a polarizing plate POL , POL laminated on an outer surface of at least one of the substrates, and drive means which applies drive voltages for display to a group of the electrodes. The liquid crystal display device further includes spacers SP which bridge a gap defined between opposing inner surfaces of the pair of substrates. The spacers SP are formed by bringing top portions of a protrusion SP1 having a specific resistance of less than 10 &OHgr;&middot;cm which is formed on one substrate SUB side and a protrusion SP having a specific resistance of not less than 10 &OHgr;&middot;cm which is formed on the other substrate SUB1 side into contact with each other.

An active matrix type liquid crystal display apparatus, including a pair of substrates and a liquid crystal layer interposed between said pair of substrates. One of the pair of substrates has plural scanning electrodes and plural signal electrodes arranged to cross the plural scanning electrodes. Pixels are formed at regions surrounded by the scanning electrodes and the signal electrodes. Respective ones of the pixels include an active element arranged at a vicinity of the crossing point of the scanning electrode and the signal electrode, a pixel electrode connected to the active element and a common electrode arranged in correspondence to the pixel electrode. Further, there is provided a colored filter and a shielding layer having a specific resistivity of less than 10 &OHgr;.cm.

Active matrix type liquid crystal display apparatus

A liquid crystal display device capable of preventing occurrence of display irregularity due to movement of spherical spacer materials. The liquid crystal display device includes a pixel electrode and counter electrode that are formed on a liquid crystal-side surface of one transparent substrate of respective transparent substrates disposed opposing each other with a liquid crystal being laid therebetween, wherein the transmissivity of light transmitting between this pixel electrode and the counter electrode is controlled by twisting of molecules of the liquid crystal as caused by an electric field generated between the pixel electrode and counter electrode. In the liquid crystal display device, spacer materials are provided between respective ones of said transparent substrates. These spacers are fixed and disposed on an insulating layer underlying an orientation film which is in contact with said liquid crystal on the one transparent substrate side.

In a liquid crystal display panel, the shrinkage of an end-scaling material for sticking a pair of substrates together is prevented or relaxed to restrain peeling of the end-sealing material from the substrates, thereby preventing any leakage of a liquid crystal and penetration of contaminants. A liquid crystal display device is assembled by bonding together a pair of substrates, which are opposed to each other across a predetermined gap and at least one of which has an electrode group formed over a surface opposed to the other substrate, with a sealing material along their peripheries excluding a liquid crystal filling port, and then sealing the liquid crystal filling port with an end-sealing material after the filling of the liquid crystal and hermetically sealing the liquid crystal in the gap between both substrates. In the liquid crystal display device, a resin which constitutes the end-sealing material contains particulates of average particle size of 0.1 &mgr;m to 3.5 &mgr;m by at least 1 volume % to 30 volume %, preferably, 1 volume % to 10 volume %.
