A multiple cone, multiple bearing liner hanger for hanging a well liner for extension of the casing liner. The multiple slip cone and multiple bearing arrangement provides uniform, positive distribution of liner weight thereby facilitating hanging of heavier liner strings. The multiple bearings ensure proper rotation of the liner during cementation. The multiple cone, multiple bearing liner hanger includes an upper slip assembly with an associated bearing and a lower slip assembly with an associated bearing. The hanger is hydraulically set by first setting the upper slips and thereafter setting the lower slips. A series of shear pins ensure proper setting of the hanger to distribute the hang weight evenly over the slip cones and bearings.

A system for cementing liners in well bores where a liner and drill pipe are made up in telescopic relationship with the lower end of the drill pipe having a polished mandrel or slick pipe slidably and sealingly received in a sealing bore receptacle in the lower end of the liner at a location just above the cementing equipment. When an interconnected setting tool and liner hanger are attached to the drill pipe and liner, a continuous passage is formed by the drill pipe from the setting tool to the location below the sealing bore receptacle. The polished mandrel has an upper normally closed sleeve valve and a lower normally open check valve so that when the liner hanger is located in the well bore, the check valve can be closed for hydraulic operation of the setting tool and opened thereafter for cementing. The sleeve valve is opened at the end of the cementing operation to bypass the interior of the pipe string to the interior of the liner.

Liner and drill pipe assembly

A stage valve for stage cementing of casings in a well bore including a tubular collar and a telescopic tubular sleeve where the sleeve has a piston portion disposed in a collar chamber and the piston portion separates a sleeve port from a collar port in a lower position. In the lower position, the sleeve mechanically engages the collar and is movable to an upper position by a differential hydraulic pressure across the piston portion to an upper position placing the sleeve port and the collar port in fluid communication with one another. In moving to the upper position, the sleeve removes a barrier from a ratchet ring in the collar so that when the sleeve is moved downwardly from an upper position, a ratchet portion on the sleeve engages the ratchet ring in a lower position of the sleeve to lock the sleeve in a closed position.

Stage cementing valve

A selectively releasable valve in a wiper plug releasably attached to a hydraulic setting tool for a liner hanger in a well bore where the valve has an annular valve seat member having collapsible finger members for sealingly receiving a ball member. The valve seat member is movable under predetermined hydraulic pressure to shift and expand the finger members to release the ball member. The valve seat member is retained in the wiper plug.

In a hydraulically operated setting tool for liner hangers used in a well bore, a norally countracted ball seat formed in the setting tool mandrel by contracted and elongated finger members. Upon seating a ball member in the ball seat, applied pressure is used to set the hydraulic setting tool. After setting the hydraulic setting tool, the ball seat is longitudinally movable so that the finger members can expand to a full opening condition in a recess and release the ball member and so that the finger members are also retrievable with the setting tool.

A setting tool and liner hanger where the liner hanger has a threaded release section and elongated slip slots for receiving slips. The slips have inclined tongue and groove interconnections along the sides of the slots defining expander surfaces. The setting tool has a hydraulic actuator and a mechanical actuator respectively having dog members releasably connected to upper and lower internal grooves in the slip members. The hydraulic actuator operates in response to hydraulic pressure for moving connected dog member for setting the slips in a well casing. Upon release of the coupling nut on the setting tool from the liner hanger, the mechanical actuator is deactuated and both dog members are released from the slips so that the setting tool is releasable from the liner hanger. The mechanical actuator operates in response to relative rotation between the setting tool mandrel and liner hanger for moving connected dog members and the slips to a setting condition. The tool is raised to a location to set the slips and to release the setting tool from the liner hanger.

A cementing system using a tubular member 43 coupled to a string of tubing 14 where upper and lower tubular liner wiper plugs (20, 21) are independently attached to and separately releasable from the tubular member. The upper tubular liner wiper plug 20 has outer liner wiper seal members, an outer latching mechanism (95) and an inner latching mechanism (52). A fluid bypass (59) is located in the liner wiper plug (20) below the wiper seal members with a check valve structure for bypassing fluid from below the seal members to the bore (45) of the tubular member in response to a pressure differential. A second check valve structure (46) is provided in the tubular member to provide a fluid bypass from the exterior of the tubular member above the seal members to the interior of the tubular member in response to a pressure differential. The lower tubular liner wiper plug (21) is provided with upper, internal spring latch fingers (71) for releasable attachment to the tubular member and an internal, releasable valve sleeve 90 in a bore 89 and a valve opening 85 in a tubular depending section of the wiper plug. A pump down plug member 100 locks into the releasable valve sleeve 90 above the valve opening 85 to form a lower plug assembly. When the lower plug assembly reaches a lower landing collar, the releasable valve sleeve 90 is released by pressure and moves to open the valve opening 85 to permit cement slurry to pass through the valve opening 85 to the float shoe and through to the annulus of the well bore and the liner.

Wiper plug cementing system and method of use thereof

A setting tool and a liner hanger for setting a liner hanger in well bores traversing earth formations where the setting tool can be hydraulically operated and released from the liner hanger or alternatively, can be mechanically operated and released from a liner hanger. The tool is provided with bypass areas in the liner hanger and locates the tieback sleeve below the liner hanger. The setting tool incorporates most of the expensive setting mechanism in the setting tool and is not a part of the liner hanger. Thus, the setting mechanism is therefore removable from the wellbore and can be reused on other liner hangers.

Hydraulic/mechanical setting tool and liner hanger

A liner hanger for use in an oil well completion comprising a hanger assembly which can be passed through a tubular pipe and has a continuous bypass and a shaped area for passing through fluid and cuttings in the pipe. The hanger assembly has an inclined cam surface which is spirally disposed along the length of a hanger body. A one-piece, heat treated, slip device comprised of strip of metal having an internal spiral and inclined cam surface is disposed up on the spiral cam surface on the hanger body. The spiral space around the hanger body provides a shaped bypass area. The spiral slip device is attached to setting means. Upon release of the setting means, relative movement between the slip device and the cam surface on the hanger body permits the slip device to be positioned in setting engagement with the inner wall of a tubular pipe.

Liner hanger assembly

Apparatus and method of positioning and seating a retrievable landing assembly within a packer bore receptacle in a well bore. Latching measure provided for releasably securing a landing assembly in the packer bore receptacle. The latching means which are normally in a retracted position are actuated by hydraulic pressure means to lock the landing assembly within the packer bore receptacle. The retrievable landing assembly can be retrieved with a spear mechanism by shearing a release mechanism. The retrievable landing assembly is hydraulically set and mechanically retrieved.

Setting tool and retrievable landing assembly

Apparatus and method of positioning and seating a retrievable insert landing assembly within a packer bore receptacle in a well bore. Means are provided for releasably securing a landing assembly in the packer bore receptacle by engaging an annular groove in the PBR with latching elements on the landing assembly. The latching elements are normally in a retracted position and are actuated by hydraulic pressure. The landing assembly has an internal polished bore which slidably and sealingly receives a tubular extension attached to a releasable coupling. The releasable coupling is disconnectable from the landing assembly after it is latched in place. To retrieve the landing assembly a spear mechanism is run in the tubing and an upward pull shears a release mechanism in the landing assembly. The retrievable landing assembly is hydraulically set and mechanically retrieved.

Retrievable insert landing assembly

A liner hanger and setting tool for use in oil well completions employing a liner hanger having a one piece body member and spring biased slips and a setting tool having a hydraulically actuated slip release mechanism normally retaining the slips in a retracted position and operable upon application of fluid pressure for releasing such slips. The setting tool has a retreivable pack off bushing disposed in the bore of the liner hanger and a threaded nut type of release for disconnecting the setting tool from the liner hanger. The setting tool requires pressure for setting and rotation for release.

Setting tools and liner hanger assembly

A method and apparatus for positioning and bonding a liner in a casing in a well bore wherein a pack off bushing is provided between the liner and the well string on which the liner is lowered into the well bore for discharge of a bonding agent through the well string and around the liner in the well bore. The seal or pack off bushing is constructed and arranged so that it may be retrieved after the positioning and bonding operations are completed along with the well string upon which the liner is initially lowered into the well bore.
